"Things Behind The Sun" - movie by Allison Anders with Smiths references

Last night I went to a premiere party for "Things Behind The Sun", a new movie by Allison Anders that will soon be playing on SHOWTIME. Morrissey references pop up all over this movie! In one of the flashback scenes, a character is wearing a "Queen Is Dead" T-Shirt. Towards the end of the film, they play "Back to The Old House", but it is a cover version, by someone named Mike Johnson... Then in the end of the movie Morrissey is thanked in the credits.

It is a really sad movie about a girl who is brutally gang raped as a kid and then is all messed up because of it... It was pretty depressing.

  • Mike Johnson played bass in Dinosaur Jr. for a while. J Mascis from Dinosaur Jr. has had music in previous Allison Anders films. Mike has a very deep and sad voice and he's released three solo albums. I can't wait to hear his version of Back To The Old House.

  • In "Career Girls" , Adrian is wearing a Smiths shirt. If you are a Cure fan, there is lots of Cure stuff in that movie.

  • Her new movie is a true story about her own experience as a young woman before she became a filmmaker. I imagine rape is quite depressing!
