Rob Patete sends the link to the mention at ICE Magazine.

excerpt:

"The First of the Gang to Die" (second single)... VP of Marketing Madelyn Scarpulla tells ICE that "Irish Blood, English Heart," which was leaked to radio a month early, "is indicative of the record. It isn't typical Morrissey at all? it's very rich, layered and mid-tempo? lyrically smart and extremely political - in a bright and funny way." A deluxe version of the release contains a bonus DVD with the video for the single plus some B-roll footage. A more extensive DVD will be released later in the year.

Safe bet that the only Morrissey she's heard is "You're Gonna Need Someone on Your Side".

        It would make some sense.
After all the main character of 'The First of the Gang to Die' is named Hector.

        Fits nicely.

There were so many other songs recorded during the Quarry sessions, and I know he won't be able to put them all on there...

        Aw, I want them all!

  • Let us not forget that Morrissey was signed to Sanctuary after he performed a pitch perfect rendition of "The First of The Gang To Die" on Kilborn. Look closely at Morrissey if you have a copy of that on tape. It's almost as if he is auditioning. You can tell he wants a deal. Like a pro he walks up to the mic. and just nails this killer, beautiful, catchy, song. He opened with this song last night at the Apollo (night 1). Again, he was perfect. It's all enough to make any record executive and fan take note that this man still has many great songs in him...more songs than we can stand...verse...chorus...middle 8...break...fade...just listen...

  • ithink this will obviously be a bside for the next single as Morrissey has been playing it frequently.

  • Sirendisc also - on close inspection - mentions under the Japanese version of Quarry that it 'may contain a bonus track'.

  • unheard of isn't it, both with Moz and music biz in general?
I think Sanctuary have seen that Irish Blood is picking up bugger all airplay in the UK and realised that First of the Gang is much more radio-friendly, and want to rush it out whilst Moz still enjoys a relatively high media profile. Let's hope it works.
Perhaps they read our poll which clearly stated a preference for FOTG!

  • that TFOTGTD will be released a month after IBEG.

They're just referring to it being sent to radio stations sooner. The Wolfman/Peter Doherty single mentioned on the siren website was on the radio a good six to eight weeks prior to release. This is now standard practice. The videos are usually out at least a month before release, so that aspect of marketing could be improved as well.

This is the 21st century, people.

You'll be asking what midweeks are next!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I think with an appearance on Jonathan Ross and then Jools Holland coming up, plus the inevitable top 10 chart position (assuming Morrissey's usual fans buy the single and his recent profile will add a few thousand to that figure - as well as a fair few XFM listeners, at least), IBEH is bound to take off on the bigger radio stations. If it hits the top 10 it will instantly become the biggest "alternative" track of the moment. In that sense, I think it's going to take off, but take off a little late. It makes sense therefore to get FOTGTD out as soon as possible, as by the time IBEH disappears from our radios altogether, Morrissey's profile will be even higher and, possibly, could be boosted by a number one album. It will be almost like a double-whammy, IBEH lands the big left hook and FOTGTD lays the knock-out punch.

Personally, I think if FOTGTD doesn't hit the top 5, he should fire his marketing men! It's a sure-fire classic pop single.

Then there's the Nancy Sinatra song. An appearance with her on TOTP would add ironic cache to Morrissey's reputation, no doubt!

  • What does this mean? I hope it´s gonna be the recording of the MEN show. Not only because it would feature this FANTASTIC gig, but "Don´t make fun..." and "No-one can hold..." as well.

Btw, I would LOVE to have "Kit" as one of the next b-sides. But I really doubt it has ever been recorded.
