I, as I'd presume of every other PETA supporter, support human rights as much as animal rights. However one must remember that while people can defend, stand up for and help themselves, animals cannot.
Animals rely solely on the intelligence, compassion and good judgment of humanity which sadly tends to be a scarce commodity (yourself seemingly a prime example, my little anonymous one.)

"vegeterianism is a fad diet of the wealthy white moralists" - that was polite, called for, and completely inoffensive was it?
When people start saying things like that it's obviously going to be slightly annoying since it's such a HUGE generalisation. If i were to sit here & say "Carnivores are all uneducated, violent beasts with no concept of morals", then that would be wrong, but it's okay for people to come on here & pass judgement on vegetarians & call us all manner of names just because we're actually trying to help animals? It all started because of a PETA campaign that Morrissey went to, we're entitled to our opinions & you're entitled to yours. Leave it at that.
Maybe i should've just stuck to my original plan of posting "Good god Moz looks gorgeous". Then again i'd probably have been accused of being blasphemous.

You are completely right to concern yourself with taking a random pot-shot at such a vast, faceless monolith like PETA who ruthlessly exploit people’s better natures; and equally right, if not more so, to defend that truly inspirational organisation KFC.
By the way, some people might point out the glaring grammatical error in your final sentence –not me! No, seriously though, if you want to maintain your high level of credibility (and let’s face it – who doesn’t?) – a friendly word of advice: When writing something such as, I don’t know, for argument’s sake let’s take the first clause of this sentence: “I'm sure people who respond to this e-mail harshly are either PETA wannabees or …” then after the conjuction (which is ‘or’ – but why am I telling you – you’re the expert!) you need another noun.
Let me give you an example: “I'm sure people who respond to this e-mail harshly are either PETA wannabees or fans of Morrissey…”. See? Makes sense, doesn’t it?
Now, if you look at the original version of that sentence it reads, “I'm sure people who respond to this e-mail harshly are either PETA wannabees or JUMP …” (sorry - my capitals!!!). You can see the problem, can’t you? Jump is a verb and verbs don’t really work as the second half of an “either/or” when the first one is a noun, no matter how much you might want them too!
If we apply your rule, we might end up with, just thinking randomly: “The person who wrote the anonymous post was either a complete, fucking, ignorant, humorless, imbecile or die in a fire and give us all a good laugh”. See my point?
You’ve got to be grammatical if you want people to take you seriously.
Go tell it to Colonel Sanders! Mine’s a bucket of bread-coated limbs!

I don't believe all PETAs are crazy, annoying and self-righteous...but alot of them are. Remember: this is the same group who sent that fax over to Siegfried and Roy that they got what they deserved for caging wild tigers, whilst Roy was fighting for his life and considered to have one foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel.
Look, say what you want about PETA and people who don't eat meat. In a sense, we need groups like PETA to keep the balance. Even if we choose not to lead their lifesyle, they offer some education to the alternatives of living, and the brutality that sick companies like KFC and IAMS take advantage of. It's like those religious nuts that either come knocking on your door at 5 in the morning, or the ones that recite the bible when all you were doing was asking for a bus token. Few people like to be preached to, no matter what the subject matter is, but it's worthwhile to keep an open mind...even if the manner in which the message is delivered is harsh, extreme, or annoying.
Having said that, PETA are wackos. Check that, i'd say about 80% are. Some of what they do is uncalled for and abhorrent. But that doesn't mean they're messages about animal cruelty should go unnoticed.
