CNN.com reports today (link) that the New York Dolls are to put out their first studio album since 'Too Much Too Soon'. Morrissey is mentioned in the article as being responsible for getting the band back together (such as it is). Strangely, the album will be on Roadrunner Records, which begs the question, "What is the current state of Attack Records?"

  • ...... presumably he loses Attack.

But the news page is rather disappointing tonight. This one is vaguely interesting, but I was kind of hoping for further revelations about Moz's future direction/collaborators.

If he shakes up his "personnel", so to speak, this could well be THE most exciting year for 'Moz music' for a long, long time. Quarry was exciting, but for me, ultimately a letdown. The prospect of something genuinely fresh is tantalising.

I think Morrissey's contributions have mainly been in the form of stating what he liked and didn't like - with his self-admitted limited musical abilities, he lacks the basic skills required for a producer. Furthermore, I don't think he'd work very well as a producer for another band...I can't imagine he'd accept being overruled by them :-)

It'd end in tears after the first day...

considering the main driving force behind the dolls is dead, a new album is a bad idea. maybe the dolls should pull an INXS and hold a competition to replace thunders.

  • With all due respect to Syl and Buster Poindexter (and there is MUCH respect due to both of 'em), without Johnny Thunders, there is no Dolls. Goddamnit, Johnny, why couldn't you have shaken off addiction!! We miss you!!

Then again, Roger & Pete are still plodding on without the OX and calling themselves The Who.

  • ages ago. He will work with a few different artists, and probably won't tour anymore.

I had hoped he might pick brian Eno, someone from Radiohead and take a more experimental direction, but if it's to be the Cockney Rejects, let's hope it sounds good.
