  • 28 if you count the 10 copies that were destroyed by people who were listening to ROTT on with their cd walkmans while jumping off highway overpasses!!!

    Looks good on you Moz!

Next time (if there is one), listen to your fans instead of spouting off your mouth.

  • So does this mean that every US copy is a limited edition release with collector's value? I think I own certain limited edition LPs with just as many units in their run. This is very disappointing news.

No tour in the US did not help.

  • All he had to do to sell more albums in America is:
      1. Make a better album. I am a HUGE fan and even I am sick of every song except Pigsty and The Youngest. It took me way longer to get sick of "Maladjusted." The album is poorly produced with few memorable tunes.

    2. Tour. Was it really necessary to play every venue in Manchester and London? The English were going to buy the album whether he played 1 or 100 concerts there.

    3. Maybe don't say how much you loathe the USA. We get it Moz you hate us. But who's laughing now?

he should have doen a club tour of north armeic before the euro trip to create interest, then come back to play proper venues.

i guess is ban on canada didn't help either.

    Or a very small cult.

    Or a miniscule clique.

  • The US legs of the tour have not even started. There's no time for jealously. It surely made more sense to start a tour in the UK and Europe first. Others in the Sanctuary cloud could say that there is plenty of time to sell and promote ROTT in the US. Just be patient !

And as for Canada. No one living in Canada could blame any artist, any sportsman, or any Organisation for not wanting to play or visit that country after the whole wide world witnessed that debacle repeated yet again, year after year. Savage and barbaric. Shame on you for allowing it to happen.

    Strawberry.

So long as you've got your copy.

Sanctaury are in a financial mess, hence the lack of promotion.

  • i think mozzer will tour in the u.s.,esp. after the dismal sales he's reading about.he said he would not play canada, but i never heard him rule out the u.s.maybe the f.b.i. boys influenced his decision.
also, i agree with alot of people on this site, this album is not easy to embrace. i like it alot more now, after frequent listenings. "i'll never be anybody's hero now" should have been the next single.

  • Much as I hate to admit it, but let's face it ROTT is no Vauxhall and I is it? To be brutally honest it's very poor. The sales in America are a bound to be giving him some cause for concern as he does like his ego stroked. It's been hyped in a lot of the press as being his "masterpiece" - it most certainly is not. Nobody knows what the future holds but with an unexciting tour and a dreadful album, let's just hope this is a temporary blip.

  • Quarry was a great album overall. Great production and a few things we hadn't really hard from Moz vocally or musically before.

ROTT, on the other hand, sounded more like a return to the Southpaw/Maladjusted era. A couple a ok tracks surrounded by a lot of mediocre-terrible ones.

It's not rocket science and it's not a dig at Moz. This one, to me, just wasn't nearly as good as the last one. It happens.

  • if he was such a high selling artists, most on here would say he sucks cuz hes too mainstream.
I dont know anyone who ever liked Morrissey becuz he sold alot of records. If you like the album and you have it thats all that matters. Hes not going to sell alot anymore for various reasons. People download cds, alot of people dont buy records, too expensive, people are maybe just too cheap and it isnt getting any promotion. Hopefully this means the dicks who complain on here will stop liking Morrissey and move on to some other artist to bash.

  • that depends upon a strong weekend opening and then goes straight to video if it doesn't do well. it's got the luxury of hanging around and waiting for the US tour and some network appearances. I recall that years after Bona Drag came out that it passed some sales milestone or other thanks to Morrissey touring at the time and playing songs off of it.

people obviously don't know about it because they're not playing it on the radio amd morrissey didn't really do any interviews here to promote it.

i guess those people who claim that it's not selling because it's not any good have the ability to look at the package and tell what's on the CD. it's not like it's getting enough exposure on radio or TV for people to be able to hear it and decide for themselves.

  • i've been a huge fan since the 80's and have been to many, many shows (even oklahoma) & have rott in my car, but I haven't listened to the cd in its entirety. i can't!!! i hate admitting this. i usually end up switching CDs (lil rob, the new ti cd or any numerous smiths cds) or just listen to the sports station on the radio. rott is just not that good. maybe i've just grown out of moz. i can just see me now coming to a red light with my windows rolled down and then hearing a children's choir blaring. mmmmm, no. i just hope moz drops some on the rott songs when he tours the states this winter because i'll be there. peace.

  • Because US is a shit country full of badly spoken, hamburger eating rednecks and Britney Spears type bimbos. And for people who don't like Mozzer slacking off America, well it's just cos he says the truth. He's touring UK and europe and that's all that matters. ROTT got to number 1 in the UK, it;s not fucking his fault if americans dont get it.

  • I'm in Salt Lake City - not exactly a hot bed of "alternative" music, but there is a local station that has been around ever since it was called "modern music". One of the dj's (and program director, I think) is a big Smiths/Moz fan, and I didn't hear any new Moz on the radio. They did have a listening release party, and there were about 30 people there. Not exactly a raging fan event. Keep in mind, this is a place where Morrissey played to 10,000+ people on the Kill Uncle tour. For the Your Arsenal tour there were around 6000. For Maladjusted, around 1500. The tour in 2002(?) where there was no new album, there were about 800 people at the U of U. The fans just aren't there. He gets no promotion, no radio play, and people seem to have forgotten that he exists. Frankly, I don't care, but at some point he's going to hang it up because nobody's listening (except us Moz-solo'ers).

I like the new album, but I just don't see any new fans being won over with the music, and the older, more casual fans don't seem interested in him (or any music - they're too busy paying their mortgages I suppose).

One other thing, I have a friend who thinks The Smiths are the greatest band ever, but he lost interest in the solo career. When I showed him the new album he laughed at the cover. He listened to it once and said "no thanks". I don't know why, but Moz has lost his appeal to alot of people who were once fans.

As long as he keeps releasing music I don't care what the numbers are, but I think the sales figures are going to affect his future output - how can they not? It is a business, after all.

I hope it doesn't become a situation like James or Gene where they started releasing albums only in the UK. I know the US music scene is pathetic, but we've got to have some hope!

    Bye now.
