Billy Duffy on Morrissey in The Nosebleeds and Studio Sweethearts audition

I received a copy of the book ''The TJM Story'' a couple of weeks ago, it was self published by Tony Davidson in 2021, with a foreword by Mick Middles.
Davidson owned TJM Studios in central Manchester, where every punk / post punk band rehearsed in. If you've seen Joy Division's video for "Love Will Tear Us Apart'', it was filmed there. Davidson also ran a record label, TJM Records and promoted gigs.

The book tells's Davidson's story and has interviews with those musicians around at the time, including Billy Duffy.

Duffy had joined The Nosebleeds, which was formed from the ashes of Wythenshawe band Ed Banger & The Nosebleeds after Ed Banger left to join fellow Wythenshawe band Slaughter & The Dogs. Vini Riley was also in the original Nosebleeds line up, but he too did not join the new incarnation.

Once Duffy was in the Nosebleeds, he takes up the story.....
''At this time I was good mates with Morrissey as we both liked the New York Dolls and other early punk from that era. It...

Virtuoso Vandenberg presses pedals for EarthQuakeDevices (September 12, 2023)

Guitar legend Carmen Vandenberg (BONES UK, Jeff Beck) sits down with EQD at Sunset Sound Studios in LA for a brand new episode of Board to Death!

Carmen runs through her current pedalboard which she is constantly evolving and updating for different purposes. Her array of pedals depends on whether she’s touring with BONES UK, accompanying another touring artist, or in the studio.

She talks about how she favors the EQD Westwood for a “bite-y” overdrive, and loves the Arrows clean boost. “It just makes anything sound better. It boosts it but it gives it more definition, kind of love having it on all the time,” says Carmen. She's also using the Sea Machine chorus and Afterneath otherworldly reverb on her board.

Word In Your Ear / YouTube: Kevin Armstrong interview on working with Morrissey and being asked to join The Smiths (September 1, 2023)

New interview with former Morrissey guitarist Kevin Armstrong. Some references to working with Morrissey and being asked to join The Smiths at the 19:15 mark (there may be others, I haven't watched the whole thing yet).

Description:

Kevin Armstrong was the guitarist in the band David Bowie asked him to assemble for Live Aid and toured and recorded with him many times. Playing the guitar intro to Rebel Rebel in a stadium, he says, is “like lighting a match”. Start the Passenger with Iggy Pop and you’re greeted with “a great mass of love”. His memoir, Absolute Beginner, is “a window onto the high table of rock and roll” and full of insights into life in studios and on the road and the fathomless levels of diplomacy often required to collaborate. This entertaining pod expands upon …

… why he turned down the offer to join the Smiths.
… how Jim Osterberg transforms himself into Iggy Pop.
… the Sinead O’Connor’s tour manager’s trick to speed the...
