The Technical/Computer advice thread

A thread for those who are clueless about computer/technical stuff (like me) to ask questions or for advice. :thumb:

My question:
Does anyone know of a good, free programme that will convert video files (downloaded from bit torrents etc) and which I can download? It needs to be able to convert the videos to iPod-compatible form. I've tried about two but neither of them worked. Any ideas?

I havn't tried these, but info might help....
I use VLC on Windows and Linux

http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/vlc-reco/id345490156?mt=8#

From what format are you wanting to convert?

Hi,

Try Videora iPod Converter, this is what I use to convert video files to iPod compatible mp4. Effective and quite simple to use.

Cheers,

How about SUPER? (http://www.erightsoft.com/Superdc.html) To download go to the end of the page and click Download SUPER © setup file . It's easier than it looks unless you want to get specific like hell, then you can do that too. You drag the file to the open program and chose from the top the type of file you want to get, there's an Apple ipod/iphone mp4 option.
It's just about trying once, then twice, until you get exactly what you want. I suggest you do the trying with small files so it takes less time. Then you'll see if you have to uncheck "DirectShow Decode" or not. It's about 30 Mb, pretty stable (I use it, and I couldn't use it if it gave me any trouble)

I'll give them a go, I'm not entirely sure what format the videos are.

For some reason Videora didn't work for me: it just refused to convert the videos.

I'll try this one too.

Thanks everyone! :)

I use this one also. I think it does just about every media conversion possible.
