Hello. I'm listening to Steve Wright on BBC radio 2 as I do every day when to my astonishment he began talking about Moz! For those of you who don't know, a quick culture/history lesson... SW is a national institution; he's been the most popular DJ in the country for the past couple of decades, the kind of cheery, easy-going and slightly humourous personality who can appeal to all ages. In 1986, Moz was listening to the show when news of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster was broadcast. Steve Wright followed the broadcast by playing 'I'm Your Man' by Wham; Moz found the broadcast of such a vacuous pop song after such shocking news highly insensitive, and so wrote the song 'Panic' to lambast Steve Wright (The 'Hang the DJ' bit specifically refers to him). Anyways, Steve Wright NEVER refers to Moz or plays any of his records, even now he is 'cool' again. but today he began joking that he wondered who 'Panic' was written about, and said that he recently tried to book him as a guest on his show! He seemed not even slightly bothered about the whole 'Panic' incident. Wonder if Moz agrees to appear on his show- it would be the ultimate case of a rock star burying the hatchet (or, in this case, the noose...)

It's not Wright...but it's okay (Score:1)
Steve Wright was reading out the showbiz news when he read an article about Morrissey making derogatory remarks about the North of England.
Wright then asked, jokingly, "Who was Morrissey singing about when sang 'Hang The DJ'?" His co-presenter Tim Smith then replied "Probably Mike Smith". Wright then carried on "(laughing)Yeah...Mike Smith. That'd be about right. Actually it's an open secret that 'Hang The DJ' was written about me. I was certainly a DJ at the time, and if he did write it about me then that's okay. I actually met Morrissey about three years ago when I was doing a piece for CNN. We had a chat, and we got on okay. I'd love to get him on the show, but my son Tommy saw him on Johnathon Ross's show and apparantely he wasn't very forthcoming with the answers".
Second co-presenter Janey Lee Grace then went on at length about how good Morrissey looks these days.
I disagree slightly with what the person who posted this story says about Steve Wright not playing Morrissey or The Smiths. He's featured The Smiths several times in his 'Non-stop Oldies' segment of the show, and he's included both Morrissey and The Smiths on TOTP2.
As a footnote; Mike Smith, who was mentioned above, was a rather chummy, bland DJ from the mid-80s who once presented Top Of The Pops with 'We Love The Smiths' written on his chest in ink marker. This was as a homage to Morrissey who had ripped of his shirt to reveal the words 'Marry Me' on his chest when The Smiths performed 'William....' on the show.

Not how I'd describe him! I can't believe that he'd appeal to his own mother, let alone people of all ages.

He could even borrow my hatchet! (Score:1)
Now that is a good idea. But if Moz did bury the hatchet he'd be arrested and wouldn't be able to continue the tour.
