Got a signed copy of Viva Hate on CD? It could be that the signature is none other than Vini Reilly's!

In an interview in the Manchester Evening News 10th September (link), Vini claims that both Morrissey and himself were given 100 copies of each others album and they thought it would be amusing if they both faked each others signature and signed the CD's in question!

  • This is who you should never buy anything "signed". Unless you are right there and see the man sign it.

  • I'd actually like a copy of a Vini signed "Viva Hate" CD knowing this amusing anecdote.

    Piece of history. Maybe

  • Wasn't it Alastair Sim (one of Moz's heroes) who said something like "You can either have my autograph or my respect, not both"?

I've never understood people wanting autographs either.

  • I'd really prefer his signature on that album as he was the best of the solo collaborators.

  • What a great story - I hope it's true! Got to agree with the previous poster: Vini's autograph is well worth having anyway. He's certainly a talented accoustic/classical guitarist - I still love "I Know Very Well How I Got My Name". It's one of my favourite Morrissey songs of all time - Vini really makes that song what it is.

  • Doesn't this constitute fraud? They were both willing participants, weren't they not? As a fan, I would be really angry to have spent my hard earned money on fake, a fake he had a part of. Shame on him! Ignorant, not funny.

  • I'd be thrilled if I had bought one of these "fake autographs" In the crazy world of collectorship, stuff like this with a story attached just makes it all the more valuable. Does anybody know if each CD had both the fake signatures? Or did Moz sign some fakes and Vini signed some fakes seperately? If they both signed the same CDs then surely, technically, Morrissey still signed them... albeit in a cheeky way! Even if it was just Vini signing "Morrissey" then the funny story is enough to justify a proud ownership... I'd hate to have paid a lot of money for one though!

  • Vini thinks this means he can just sign a few copies and flog them on e-bay as "Morrissey signed Viva Hate first editions." Times must be tough for Mr Reilly.

  • Is it just me, or does Vini seem like an absolute loser?

Every time this guy gets some pub lately, it is for something idiotic, like this.

This guy needs to get his own life.
