you can download the Blue Velvet cover of "Don't Make Fun of Daddy's Voice" here.

Blue Velvet is a 60's retro lounge act that been around southern California for the last five years and they play in San Diego every Saturday night at THE CALIPH. Their version is more Petula Clark than The Clash.

THE CALIPH is a gay club for men and they play songs from Tony Bennett to The Carpenters to MORRISSEY. "..Daddy's Voice..." is the newest song they are performing there.

BLUE VELVET's pianist/leader Kevin Cavanaugh can be heard playing at The Turf Supper Club every Sunday night and he can play ANY Smiths' song. Kevin IS a big Morrissey fan and even spent the day with him on James Dean's farm when Morrissey was shooting "Suedehead".

Blue Velvet is currently for a producer/label to release their product.

  • Before EVERYONE slags their recording off, I think it's good clean fun, high camp, and a good laugh.

    Good luck to them.

Also, those photos! What a blast! Just the sort you might have if Moz was a mate. Brilliant.

  • Aren't they 'clever?' Stupid, annoying, whiney and pointless. It's about as subtle as a nuclear warhead, and for those who say this is "camp" you need to go back to camp school.

Too many days on the beach, I guess. Their brains have turned to mush.

  • Can't people write their own songs anymore? I'm sick of every wannabe-nobody covering Morrissey songs and now even before they're properly released!

  • Re: "Cory replied that he had a car part that bob was looking for and then cory proceeded to tell bob that a very famous singer had been filming a music video on their farm and that they were going to be there one more day of filmingĀ  on sunday."

Condolences to Kevin Cavanaugh. Not only was "Bob" your best bud, but you shared a wonderful experience with him. An experience that not only isolated you from hordes of adoring fans, but also that it took place upon sacred grounds that are the origins of Jimmy Dean. If ever Blue Velvet's passing on through, playing a gig in San Francisco, I'll be sure to check you out.

    Take care.

  • I have heard many of the original songs that The Smiths & Morrissey have covered that this cover by Blue Velvet sounds like it could have been the ORIGINAL version.

Listen to Golden Lights by Twinkle again & be convinced. Most of us would not know some of the original songs if it was for HIM. You know what I mean.
