Guess who's collaborating with Morrissey now?

Ok, I don't know if the last Popbitch story is true, but I do know that a very good source recently informed me that Morrissey is currently collaborating with someone other than Boz & Alain.

I've been sworn to secrecy not to reveal just who it is. Apparently these new collaborators - yes that's plural - have been writing tracks for Moz and sending them across the Atlantic to LA.

These collaborators, who in my opinion are criticized more for their fanbase than music, are sure to raise an eyebrow or two. Quite possibly it's a fantastic new direction for Moz.

  • think of a UK band with two songwriters, and a notorious fanbase?
nothing springs to mind, not in the indie world at least...
with any luck, it would be proper pop-writers so Moz can get back to singing those fantastic sky-tickling melodies that we got so consistently in the Marr-Street days.
don't want to see the end of the Boorer/Whyte partnership although Boz's stuff has been poor recently (don't forget he composed the music to the three best songs on Vauxhall). but let's just have their very best stuff mixed in with the new collaborators'.
let's hope Moz has got all the dreary court case/journalist/flag waving/taxman/magistrate stuff out of his system so we can have some fresh, inspired lyrics as well...
gosh, isn't it all terribly exciting!

  • ..any poncey middle classed indie trendies. He wouldn't even think of working with such types.

So, no Radiohead, Coldplay, or Tears.

It will be someone with a similar background to Morrissey. Oasis are the most likely. If not, someone from the more poppy end of the market.

Just thought I'd say this so that some of you indie types who are desperate for him to do something "credible" are prepared for disappointment.

  • If it is true, then it doesn't really matter too much, it'll hopefully just be on the one song, & at least it means new material from him. I can't see Morrissey agreeing to work with someone who hasn't got any musical integrity. I doubt it's true, but if it is then we should all just trust his judgement. Unless it's Good Charlotte, then i'll sit & cry for a few weeks.

It would never be someone as mainstream and obvious as Oasis, definitely not Pet Shop, or Thrills. Nothing like this. Mozzer is the type of guy that just when you think that everything is normal and straight, he sends out a Drag Queen with a ghetto blaster to mime and introduce him and one of his New York shows. I actually wouldn't be surprised if it was Johnny. Morrissey is notorious for being unpredictable and different. Do you really think you're gonna guess this? IF, and that's a big IF, it's even true. I love Alain and Boz, but change never hurt anyone and would be nice. I'm deing to hear a new tune like, 'Piccadilly Palare' or 'He Knows I'd Love To See Him'. That's the good stuff, in my humble opinion.

  • or if it bears any resemblance to later revealed truth it is more than likely to be purely coincidence.

a couple of names im surprised havnt been batted about as yet are Bono and The Edge. while im nearly 100% sure that it is not them, they would be juste as likely if not more than the members of Oasis. Bono and The Edge has a far wider history of collaborations and and writing and for other artists and what they lack in the Mancurian connection they make up for in the Irish connection. Bono has recently bestowed much praise for Moz- see 'The Importance of Being Morrissey'- and the feeling is mutual as Moz told in an interview from early 2004 (ibelieve- cant remember with whom). Bone and The Edge also contributed to Nancy Sinatra's latest album ("Two Shots of Happy, One Shot of Sad") which of course Moz also contributed to and which was released on Moz's Attack label.

had there not been the condition of plurality idve guessed PJ Harvey since they were recent tourmates and Polly, since her collaboration with Thom Yorke on 'Stories From The City, Stories From the Sea', has gained a new fetish for writing for other artists. she wrote much of Marianne Faithful's last album and im sure would love to write with or for Morrissey. iknow many here will disqualify her rightoff for her views on hunting, but if he toured with her then why not use one of her songs?
