There are 3 mentions of Morrissey in the February edition of Q.

1) BOOKS.(page 116)
MORRISSEY
IN CONVERSATION-THE ESSENTIAL INTERVIEWS.
***
THE WIT AND WISDOM OF MOZZER. CURRENT FURORE NOT INCLUDED.
When making his triumphant come-back of 2004, Morrissey admitted that during his late'-90s wilderness years, rattling around his Hollywood retreat waiting for a record deal, he'd already begun writing his autobiography. "I've always been in the hand of the press", said the ex-Smith,"and so much nonsense about me has been accepted as truth". That Morrissey, at the time of going to press, is suing a music magazine for conspiring to "characterise me as a racist", suggests his tolerance for such nonsense has reached its limit. Yet four years later, we're still waiting for that apocalyptic memoir ("You ought to expect names, photos and fingerprints") as Morrissey continues to consolidate his post millennial second coming: this month, he's back in the UK, playing a week at London's Roundhouse.

In the meantime, Morrissey:In Conversation arrives to remind us of his past 25 years "in the hands of the press", compiling 27 magazine interviews from the Smiths' first footings in 1983 up to recent encounters in his newly adopted hometown of Rome in 2006. It's proof, lest we forget, that in term of great copy Morrissey has rarely been anything other than interview gold. Just as he sings his life on record, he's strategically used the music press as a soapbox to impart his unique worldview, whether calling for a "new movement of celibacy", having to knee KFC's Colonel Sanders "in the groin" in the name of vegeterianism or denying those recurring racist accusations.("If the National Front were to hate anyone, it would be me". It's an absorbing testament to the only rock'n'roll icon who's dared to admit feeling "erotic about blotting paper", yet in the age of the internet such a book feels vaguely redundant. Its target audience of Smiths-Morrissey devotees will probably already be familiar with the extensive interviews archives at the wonderful Arcane Old Wardrobe site, this collection's likely inspiration. The only exclusive entry is the full transcript of Paul Morley's 2006 encounter with the man, a hilarious read worth savouring in its entirety particularly for Morley's running joke about his subject's pained facial contortions.

Still, in regurgitating past clippings, this tells us nothing that we don't already know. For that we'll have to wait until he takes a break from singing-and possibly suing-to finish that hungrily awaited page-turner. Those "names, photos, and fingerprints" can't come soon enough" .
Simon Goddard.

Typical quote:"I don't go on holidays. Not since they shut down Butlins Bognor. I just hang around the East End in a long black cape."

2) 2008 PREVIEW
AUTUMN ALBUMS (page 71)
MORRISSEY
The Pitch:those controversial comments about immigration put him in the news, but now it's time to let the music do the talking. According to the singer, his first solo album for new label Polydor includes the glam-rock throwback All you need is me, I'm throwing my arms around Paris, and One day goodbye will be farewell. Mooted producers include Tony Visconti and Jerry Finn, who worked on You are the quarry".
We say: we're long overdue a classic Morrissey solo album.
ETA: september.

3) UPCOMING GIGS.
THE HOT TICKET OF THE MONTH:
MORRISSEY (page 140)
Controversy-courting Mozzer supplements his sold-out-six-night-residency at London's Camden Roundhouse with two dates in the North and one in Scotland. Don't expect him to resurrect Bengali in Platforms, mind.
Photo of Mozzie with blue shirt and tie: "Morrissey, his full Windsor knot needed some work".

  • The main problem with this book is the absymal standard of proof-reading - it's littered with typos. Not very professional at all.

  • I have bronchitis thanks to Haaaa, according to Eric Hartman - my "karma". I don't believe in karma, that’s a cop out. But I emphatically maintain that what goes around comes around. You could construe this as “karma” - maybe, but karma is a separate entity. Some people believe in reincarnation, some people believe in karma. I am not a big fan of “karma”, but I absolutely believe that the ways you treat others - shall come back to you - at some point, it’s just the universe’s way of saying that when you are bad to others for no reason-no reason, it will come back to you tenfold. I get bronchitis so many times a year because, because I am always having to scream at this psychological abuser who lives in my house. I always hurt my voice because I am always yelling. Smoking, smoking like Rod Serling also contributes to this annoying ailment. Ain’t life grand. I like to smoke though. And drinking is a very very good thing. Cough syrup is also a good thing. Ear infections are not a good thing.
Right- so I am bored and I was thinking about when Morrissey celebrates the momentous day when he finds out that the "enemy" lost. I mean just look at the depths that the “enemy” went. The brouhaha shall be monumental. I have the keys to Morrissey’s mindset and his future, maybe. No, not literally but metaphorically ... My own lawyer told me one time that here in America, "the legal system sucks". I am not too familiar with the legal system in the UK but, but reflecting back regarding Judge Weak and Mike Gross, apparently it was the same scenario. But on a brighter note, “things change”, thankfully, because Morrissey is finally having justice prevail and, and we have tapes that have helped us along.
What makes Morrissey soooo adorable is not only his hands, but, but the expressions on his adorable face. He has the cutest mannerisms, ways , etc.. I love those expressions. I am usually in a trance at the shows when I am first row so I miss, miss a lot of adorable expressions but watching Who Put the ‘M’ in Manchester right up close to the TV literally and pressing “zoom” it’s like being back in Boca, PA, NJ, etc., etc. all over again, only these times I get to see all of the various and diverse minuscule details that I missed while I was in the 1000 degree weather in the front rows this summer and other times.
I am sick and I have time on my hands and I went spinning back in this Twilight Zone of modern technology and pulled out this three minute song that was composed ages ago. I cannot believe, I cannot believe it’s been seven years on. It only took about three minutes but the feelings and connections to it remain as if time was preserved in a bottle. Just repressed a lot. Some things change in life, this I shall maintain. But regarding Morrissey, he is the only person that shall remain a constant in my life. Always.

    Here-

This goes out to the drummer Mike, aka Mike Gross

    Legalized Fraud
You belong in a psych. ward
Instead, they handed you an award
Your signature nowhere of importance, ignored

A court of justice with no use for nothing but
    psychological abuse

    Drum, bum
    Drum, bum

You squealed like a pig, while standing your ground. And you think you've won, but always remember this "What goes around comes around".

Judges, lawyers, useless, trash, and shrewd
Bashing, twisting, basing decisions not on facts, but upon, "what's your personality like", "your personal style", "your attitude", and "your mood"

    Drum, bum
    Drum, bum

You squealed like a pig, while standing your ground. And you think you've won, but always remember this "What goes around comes around".

You lied, and you were believed, by a legal system, hostile and vile.

You squealed like a pig, while standing your ground. But always remember this "What goes around comes around".

    One who hates people
    has time on her hands
And I wish you the worst
    So just close your eyes
    just close your eyes
And may you never never have peace

  • Wouldn't you love to see an interview w/ Julia Riley? Does anyone have any predictions about her? Remember how Tchaikovksy (sp?) had a woman fan who financed his music career and then one day after many years she realized she was never going to get what she wanted and she dropped him. What does Riley want? To see Moz in concert? She's done that! What else is she seeking? Somebody interview her! :)

  • I remember some of Moz's comments about "fame, money, lawsuits," but I was wondering if anyone had any good "Music Law" topics. I'm a Moz fan & a songwriter, but I'm having a hard time thinking of a music law topic to do a scholarly paper on and without inspiration, it will suck. Any suggestions?

  • I know this is off topic but I didn't know how long it would take you to get back if I sent you an e-mail. I just wanted to know if I registered on the "forums", would I be banned because I have a "0" by my name down here or would I be like on a mmm probation watch? I am asking this before I attempt to register.
