What if Black Sabbath covered The Smiths?

I came across this download a few weeks ago whilst hunting for Moz/ Smiths rarities on the net. Basically, The Black Smiths were a band covering Smiths songs in the style of Black Sabbath. Not, really being familiar with the work of Sabbath I can't comment on how faithful the reproductions of their works are. However all the lyrics are Morrissey's and sung in the style of Ozzy Osbourne!

Further information is listed below:

'The Black Smiths (2005) Tracks:

1. Fast Pigs Going Nowhere
2. Fairies Panic
3. How Sweet Is Leaf
4. Shoplifters Of The Void
5. Unhappy Sabbath Day
6. What She Sabbed
7. Planet In A Coma
8. Children Of The Cemetary
9. That Snow Isn't Funny
10. Into The Bigmouth
11. This Charming Acrobat

The Black Smiths:

Ozzissey - Vocals
Johnny Marrommi - Guitar
Geezy Rourkler - Bass
Mill Warce - Drums

What if Black Sabbath covered The Smiths?

I discovered these guys through Metal Sludge's Copy Cathouse column.
They had posted their only album for free on their website & that's what I'm sharing with you.
While not a top notch recording or even a classic album, it's well worth grabbing for a fun diversion and the pure WTF?! of it.

Recommended Songs: "How Sweet Is Leaf" & "Fairies Panic"

I believe they broke up a little while ago.
So this all that there is.

Metal SLudge Article.

I downloaded the aforementioned recordings by going to www.torrentreactor.to and searching for Black Smiths (ignoring their importuning for free pornography!). Nb. You will require suitable torrent downloading software to enable you to download and listen to the music.

  • These guys are from Denver. I rented a rehearsal studio down the hall from them. It was funny to hear them start playing a Sabbath tune and then start singing Smiths lyrics. That basically all they did. The singer was truly a Moz fan so I can assure you they weren't trying to slight him.

  • This was done to perfection by the great deceased Kurt. On T.O.T.P. Channeling Morrissey via The Beatles and Black Sabbath.

From Seattle to Manchester to Liverpool to Birmingham. Kurt certainly covered all bases.

Note Kurt in extravagant Moz pose @ 1 min 24 secs. And to think Morrissey thought they were 'just hippies'!!!!!

It doesn't get any better than this. Ever.

'A notable alternate performance of "Smells Like Teen Spirit" occurred on BBC's Top of the Pops in 1991, during which the band refused to mime to the prerecorded backing track and Cobain sang in a deliberately low voice and altered numerous lyrics in the song (for example, "Load up on guns, bring your friends" became "Load up on drugs, kill your friends"). Cobain would later claim he was trying to sound like former Smiths frontman Morrissey.[54] The Observer stated Nirvana's performance was responsible for "Teen Spirit" entering the UK top ten the following week;[55] when Top of the Pops was cancelled in 2006, The Observer listed Nirvana's performance of "Smells Like Teen Spirit" as the third greatest in the show's history.[56] This performance can be found on the 1994 home video Live! Tonight! Sold Out!! and on the bootleg Outcesticide IV: Rape of the Vaults.
