Boz Boorer - Interview July 2008 - adam-ant.net

What are your plans for this album, to tour it on your own or just to release it as a package as in "here it is"?
I plan to do a few shows to announce it's arrival into the world but it wont be a tour, I am so busy working with Morrissey

On the new Morrisey album 'Years Of Refusal' I take it that it is two tracks that you have written together? (Black Cloud and Football Giveaway)
Football Giveaway? Where did you get that title?

Damn Wikipedia!
That's some instrumental music I wrote for a TV documentary called , strangely enough "Football Giveaway" , nothing to do with Morrissey. I have, however, 4 co-writes on the new Morrissey album, the first single of this year, which was, 'That's how people grow up," the next single which is 'I'm Throwing my Arms around Paris', a song called 'One day goodbye will be farewell' and the mighty 'Black Cloud' so only one point out of a possible 4 for you there!

Have you done any more, say for singles/B-sides?
Amongst the many songs I have written with Morrissey, there are 2 unreleased Boz/Moz songs on the re-issue of Southpaw Grammar that I am quite excited about, "Honey You Know Where To Find Me" and "You Should've Been Nice To Me"

What are your future plans and what are you working on now?
We are planning a lot of shows to go with the new Morrissey album 'Years Of Refusal'

  • Bad-mouthing Jesse despite the fact that it has nothing to do with this post.

So basically all we have here is a new song title that will be on there called "Black Cloud"...I wonder what that song could be about....

  • Is atrocious. PLEASE don't let this piece of plodding rubbish appear on the album, especially when it has already been released. It has no redeeeming qualities - sonic bluster, bland production and shoddy lyrics.

"Paris" is ok, but a b-side.

The other new songs are good to excellent.

  • Complain about That's How People Grow Up all you want, it still won't stop you buying the album. 'At Last I Am Born' was absolutely dire, and quite a lot of Ringleader is dull, tedious rubbish, but we all still bought it (or stole it) and it still got to number one.

Also, ..Paris will fail horribly if it really is to be released as a single. As someone above me said, it's a good b-side. But, then again, so is nearly everything Morrissey has released since Southpaw Grammar.

And still we buy it and feed his habit for releasing mediocre faff about how terrible his millionaire, jet-set lifestyle is.

  • I have a few up at my MySpace page...a really good, cleaned up edit of Paris as well as a very good, loud Skull, and a few others. I don't have Nice to Me, but if any of you have never heard Honey, it's really good, and that one is posted as well.

  • Who cares what the first single is or what the songs are called. We get a new Morrissey album! Add to that a new Oasis cd and a close, close, close U.S. President election. Oh, add on the 4th book in the Twilight series and the next few months will be good. Add to that a new club in San Antonio that plays both Morrissey and Smiths songs- and I'm not talkin 'How Soon is Now 'or 'First In the Gang to Die' crap either. Good time for all! Yes, I do need to get out more....

  • ....yet all you can do is complain about him! Really, I think Morrissey wrote that song after paying a visit to Morrissey-Solo. There's so many moaners, they'll complain about anything....

  • It's good to know that some of those delightful songs were co-written by Boz. I always loved him as a co-writer. His guitar work (plus Alain's of course) on Southpaw was splendid, specially Best Friend On The Payroll.

  • You people are scum.
I really hope that he does retire and refuse to tour or record new songs just to fuck you over.
I really don't know how he does it, how does he put up with this shit day in day out? If I were him I would just give up, since his fans are a bunch of ungratfeul cunts.

  • I minted my original Mozzy membership card in '86 (just so you know...) In my opinion "Grow Up" is musically fine. The lyrics are the issue I have, the chorus is plain rotten. I'd rather it wasn't on the album but won't die if it is.

As far as the single, Paris is al'ight, Skull is better and I think Farewell if fleshed out properly could be the Speedway of Refusal. That said I wish Mozzy would put something new and unpreviewed out as a single. I think that would create the most interest and buzz.

Glad to see Boz more involved and with him issuing a solo album in September as well I'm pretty excited.

  • 'People grow up' was / is a great song, i don't know why so many people have such a downer on it. The one after 'All You need Is me' was / is the weakest link...the sort of thing that a million new bands starting up could knock out..that typical plodding bass and drum pattern...very bad.

  • ... if That's How People Grow Up is on the album, then can we predict All You Need Is Me will *also* be on the album?

    It seems likely.

I would say: Tracks DEFINITELY on Years Of Refusal

    1. ‘THAT’S HOW PEOPLE GROW UP’ (Morrissey/Boorer)
    2. ‘I’M THROWING MY ARMS AROUND PARIS’ (Morrissey/Boorer)
    3. ‘ONE DAY GOODBYE WILL BE FAREWELL’ (Morrissey/Boorer)
    4. ‘BLACK CLOUD’ (Morrissey/Boorer)
    5. ‘SOMETHING IS SQUEEZING MY SKULL’ (Morrissey/Whyte)
    6. ‘ALL YOU NEED IS ME’ (Morrissey/Tobias)
    7. ‘MAMA LAY SOFTLY ON THE RIVERBED’ (Morrissey/Whyte)

    with 5 more out of...
    ‘WHEN I WAS YOUNG’ (Morrissey/Whyte)
‘I’M LOOKING FORWARD TO GOING BACK’ (Morrissey/Whyte)
‘BECAUSE OF MY POOR EDUCATION’ (Morrissey/Whyte)
‘YOU WERE GOOD IN YOUR TIME’ (Morrissey/Whyte)
‘I WAS BULLY, DO NOT FORGET ME’ (Morrissey/Whyte)
    ‘TERESA TERESA’ (Morrissey/Whyte)
‘WHEN LAST I SPOKE TO CAROL’ (Morrissey/Whyte)
‘IT’S NOT YOUR BIRTHDAY ANYMORE’ (Morrissey/Whyte)
‘ACTION MAN’ (Morrissey/Whyte) (this sounds like a B-side maybe?)
+ ??? any more Jesse Tobias songs?

    plus we now know that
    ‘MY DEAREST LOVE’ (Morrissey/Whyte)
was a B-side and probably on't be repeated on the album?

    2. Something Is Squeezing My Skull

  • This is amazing news... Anyone have anything positive to say about Boz stating 'lots of shows to promote Years of Refusal? I myself am so happy, I am physically molting. If you have anything negative to say about it, keep it to yourself. Don't ruin this moment for me and make me go ape shit on your ass like a spider monkey all jacked up on Mountain Dew.

    Thanks Boz, gotta love him!
    Cheers~ rose ;)
