I just pulled this off of Allstar Music News (Feb. 4) :

Cool Band Alert: Ex-Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr is having some success with Haven, the latest musical finding he's produced. "Say Something," the first single from Between the Senses, released Feb. 4 on Radiate/Virgin U.K., is starting to get U.S. airplay on the likes of Carson Daly's radio show, Out of the Box. Of course, the Brits are all over this Manchester foursome, with NME calling Haven "one of the best bands in the U.K." Haven kicks off a U.K. tour on Saturday (Feb. 9) at the Manchester Night and Day Tour Party. The album is expected in the U.S. by June, with a West Coast tour likely in May. Speaking of Marr, he's this close to signing a new deal with a U.S. label for the release of the Healers's long-awaited debut album. Marr is due in L.A. shortly for the final stages of mixing, and plans to hit the road in the U.S. sometime this summer. More details to come. (Carrie Borzillo-Vrenna)

Morrissey is mentioned in a new Nico CD called Innocent And Vain - Introduction to Nico. Here is what it says in the sleevenotes:

"Its a telltale sign of the emotional gravitas Nico's best work evokes that this disc's title track, 1974's "Innocent and vain" has since been adopted by that more commercially renowned purveyor of alleged miserablism Morrissey. The former Smiths vocalist has for the majority of his solo live performances routinely subjected his audience to its Gothic majesty at full volume prior to taking the stage himself. Interviewed for Select magazine in 1994, he played it to his inquisitor commenting "this is my youth in one piece of music. Don't talk while it's on". The journalist noted how throughout "Morrissey sits on the corner of the couch, head bowed, eyes closed, arms folded and fists driven into his armpits. He looks like he's in hell."

The song itself is very weird which we all will recognise from the Oye Esteban tour, those horrible seagull noises at the end. The CD is a mix of Velvet Underground songs and solo Nico and quite good value for those who dont own any Nico albums yet. I bought mine in a HMV shop in England - dunno if its out in States or internet?

David writes: Billy Bragg's forthcoming lp contains the song, 'England, Half English' which has the lyrics "Dance with me to this very English melody From morris dancing to Morrissey, all that stuff came from across the sea"

read the full lyrics here.

Tiff Smith also sent the reference with additional info on the album: The new studio album from Billy Bragg and The Blokes will be called England, Half English and will be released on March 4, 2002, Billy and his management have confirmed...

I was going to see best of Slamdance at the Egyptian to see "Louder than Bombs," when I happened to stop by a newsstand. To my surprise, I flipped through Q Magazine Best 100 Rock Pictures and found a earnestly whimsical photo of Morrissey paying homage to James Dean circa Griffith Observatory. I can't quite remember what number it was or who the photographer was, but the photo placed around the 50's. I was elated to see that Morrissey was payed respect for his wounderful Persona Pictures that has delighted us all.

I found this article quite interesting: Askmen.com named The Smith's album "the singles" as being #5 best album of all time (out of 200) under the category alternative. They write that "The Smiths were a benchmark for 80's music, and one word says it all: Morrissey!"

Here is the question asked to Lloyd Cole on his official website, you can find it on the "fanbase section/ask lloyd 03/00".

Question asked by Gordon Forrester, UK:

"Your career and Morrissey's seem to have mirrored each other. The Smiths and the Commotions forming and splitting at the same time.Much maligned and misunderstood lead singer goes solo with mixed results before decamping to the States, losing record label along the way.
Morrissey once said you are the nicest person he has ever met.Sandie Shaw covered 'Are You Ready To Be Hearbroken' on Morrissey's advice and you name him in 'Seen The Future'.
Do you still keep in touch now that he lives full time in America ?
Have you ever thought of working together?
What do you think the results would be like if you did?"

Answer from Lloyd:

"No we're not in touch.I'm not sure what we'd have to say."

This is old, but here it is again if you missed it. mozzergirl writes:

In this month's edition of the Danish woman's magazine "Woman" (!) is an article about the late Michael Hutchence. It's written by a friend of Hutchence, Adrian Deevoy. He decribes the former INXS singers personal life and comes around many details about his use of drugs, his relationship with Kylie and also his relationship with Helena Christensen. According to Adrian Deevoy this is how Hutchence described Helena:

"'She's fantastic,' he says. 'An amazing skin. Amazing eyes. She's a huge fan,' he adds, 'of Depeche Mode and the Smiths.' This proves to be a topic that Helena can discuss for hours and hours - without getting bored with it. Just the mentioning of Morrissey's name and Helena starts babbling about him."
