Music firm Sanctuary on track

LONDON (Reuters) - Music firm Sanctuary is on track to meet market expectations for its financial year, boosted by acts ranging from lugubrious lyricist Morrissey to rowdy rabble rousers The Libertines, it says.

London-based Sanctuary SGP.L , whose 150,000 track-strong music catalogue makes it the world's largest independent owner of music intellectual property rights, said it expected to benefit in the future from new albums and major tours by disco divas Destiny's Child and ageing rockers Iron Maiden.

House broker Credit Suisse First Boston is forecasting a pretax profit of 18.3 million pounds for the year ending September 30.

Sales were boosted by Morrissey's "Your are The Quarry" album, which sold in excess of 700,000 copies worldwide and The Libertines's self-named Number 1 album.

"We continue to view the future with confidence in the belief that our business model provides the basis for sustainable growth and cash generation," the company said in a statement on Monday.

The company said it had continued to invest in new recorded products, with advances to artists continuing at a similar level to last year's 14 million pounds.

Sanctuary made several acquisitions this year, notably reggae catalogue, Creole Records, and artist management company TDM. It has since added artists multi-platinum selling urban artist Nelly, Mary J Blige and rock group Slipnot to its Artist Management arm. It expected fewer acquisitions in the future.

Sanctuary said merchandising had also performed well, particularly in the United States.

In early morning trading, Sanctuary shares were up 2.40 percent at 42-1/2 pence.

Chloe Sevigny and designer Benjamin Cho (another Moz addict) threw a Morrissey themed Halloween party at Sway in New York City on Halloween night; everyone came dressed as Moz...it's mentioned in the first item in today's Page Six column from the New York Post.

Excerpt:

And at Sway, Chloe Sevigny and fashion designer Ben Cho hosted the "Night of 1,000 Morrisseys" party, where virtually everyone dressed up as the pompadoured former Smiths singer.
