I talked to Boz for a few minutes before his acoustic set at Don Hill's last night (Dec.7). He brought up the subject of Morrissey, saying that Morrissey has enough material for a new album but can't record for lack of a record deal. Boz said that Morrissey has received offers to do TV shows but has turned them down. It seems they all want Morrissey to play stuff from his past, which he is not interested in doing.

Boz played a few Morrissey songs - the one's I seem to remember: Jack the Ripper, Why Don't You Find Out For Yourself, The More You Ignore Me..., Certain People I Know, and an unreleased one, the title I can't remember (Kit?). People made other requests - Boxers, Speedway, Teachers - but Boz claimed not to remember the words.

A great show by one of the most friendly people.

Mrs. Shankly also has a report on her site, mrs shankly's mp3 of the week for loafing oafs along with a video of Boz doing "Kit", and a scan of the lyrics and guitar chords.

Boz wrote in to clarify that the previously mentioned instrumental demo of "Honey, You Know Where To Find Me" is indeed a real demo, but it was actually written by him, not Alain as previously speculated.

Boz Shines Brightly at the Blue Comet

Boz Boorer was truly on fire tonight. He played the Blue Comet in lovely Glenside, PA, just minutes from Philly. The Blue Comet is one of the preeminent rockabilly venues on the East Coast, attracting great talent and a devoted crowd. Two weeks ago, with a power outage, the bands hopped up on the bar and played "unplugged" by the light of dozens of votive candles. This place, these people rock! Sunday night is usually the big night at the Blue Comet, but tonight's show, organized by Mr. Brian Setzer himself, drew in a full house.

The new issue of UNCUT magazine is a Rolling Stones special but features extensive quotes from Johnny Marr aswell as Mike Joyce and Andy Rourke. Although they're talking about the Stones, they all refer to the influence on the Smiths. It's quite informative for those interested in the Smiths though sadly nothing from Morrissey himself.

The December issue of Q Magazine has a small Morrissey reference in it under the heading "Unsolved Crimewatch!", which is basically a page about songs which involve crimes:

Late Night Maudlin Street - Morrissey

Crime: Assault.
Victim: Steven Patrick Morrissey.
Time: Evening, early 1970s.
Scene: Maudlin Street.
Details: "I came home late one night, everyone had gone to bed/Nobody stays up for you when you have 15 stitches all around your head." A local youth was latter apprehended ("They took you away in the police car").
Clues: Judging by the victim's protests ("Dear Inspector, don't you care?/Don't you know about love?), the wrong person may have been arrested.
Changes of being solved: Again, there are serious gaps in evidence and the passage of time involved makes a conviction unlikely.

There's also a picture of Morrissey with the text: "Stop! Thief! You're rather handsome.", probably refering to Morrissey's "love" of crime and criminals.
