Tour updates

Sorry if the tour section so far seems unorganized, traveling to the shows has been hectic as usual. Thanks to everyone who has been submitting info / photos through the tour page and through e-mail - after Coachella I'll have more time to devote to the site. In the meantime, also check out MorrisseyTour.com for updates from each show.

From Gladioli, a scan of the ad which appeared last Sunday in the Sunday Times. The same image was used in the poster sold last night ($7 in Santa Barbara):

London (Nov. 13)
may not be going ahead. From Grant:

The above gig does not appear to be going ahead after all. The reasons being that 1) Ticketmaster have taken this date off their system altogether, 2) the tour advert that was doing the rounds in the music press does not mention this date and 3) nme.com do not have it listed. Putting 2 and 2 together it looks like this date is a no-goer.

Manchester Apollo (Dec. 8?) not confirmed, from NK:

I rang up the Apollo to confirm this and they appeared to know nothing about it. Whether they are try to curb an onslaught of phonecalls that may well result in the confirmation of this date I do not know.

The previously mentioned rumor about Shed 7 supporting Morrissey in the UK are false - Sack is supporting.

Scan from Smilingontim, an ad which appeared in the Nov. Q magazine. The image is also used for the tour t-shirt. ($18 in Santa Barbara).

Last night in S.B. was amazing. I agree, it's great that Gaz is back! The set was very diverse and drew from a lot of different areas: highlights for me included "Hairdresser on Fire," "You're Gonna Need Someone On Your Side," "Tommorrow," "Is it Really So Strange?" (!) and the encore "Last Night I Dreamt..."!!!
I'll remember this show for a long time...

The S.B. show was my first and I'll never forget it!!!! Mozz, Boz, Gaz, and Alain rocked like never before. I was so taken by surprise when they played "Meat Is Murder" that I couldn't help but cry. I love you Mozz!!!

Would they have written an encore on the set list?
If your answer is no, the show was cut shorter than previously thought. Last night I dreamt was on the set list (my determined freind pestered until he got it), and there it was on the very bottom. That is not to say they couldn't have just written it because they knew they were going to do it (as an encore), but it left me thinking. How bout it guys, whaddya think?

Did anyone wait around for those buses to leave last night (from santa barbera)? Does anyone know if those security guards were telling the truth or if they were pullin our chains?

VEGAS SHOW CANCELLED
After waiting in line several hours, at 7:20 we were informed that the show is cancelled. The reason cited was that Alain Whyte was having back problems and that his doctor told him he shouldn't play.
We were told that the show would be rescheduled, but I'll believe that when I see it. Seeing as how they are starting the European tour next week. Coachella may also be in jeopardy. I was told by someone who was at the Santa Barbara gig that when the fans rushed the stage, some one hit Alain in the back, he cried out in pain, and put down his guitar and left.
We knew something was up when around six o'clock a bunch of police officers showed up along with outside security like they were preparing for a riot or something.
What else can I say other than THIS SUCKS!!!!!!

Howdy Folks...just got back from Vegas...not totally dissapointed but somewhat discouraged about there being another show to make-up tonight's performance. To add to the information already on here, I talked to one of the security officers who seemed to have more specific information about today's events. She told me that Alain had been with a chiropracter all day long, in an effort to aleviate the pain he was experiencing in his back. For this very reason they waited till the last moment to make sure Alain was unable to play...hoping he would be well enough to perform by evening. Obviousley, Alain was not doing well by showtime. His back pain corelates with the information someone provided about Alain being hit yesterday in Santa Barbara. My Brother was at that show and told me that in Santa Barbara, Alain hardly moved at all. So we could speculate that Alain has been suffering with this for at least a couple days and it wasn't just a random spazm he had today. Being that Coachella is a couple days away, an a European tour being a week away, I would strongly doubt that Alain will be able to perform this Saturday...but who knows...maybe they can have Marr fill in...HAHA...hey..just kidding. It seems the Morrissey curse has struck again...injuring another tour, yet again. One thing really gets me though. I could understand people getting upset about this incident and all the trouble they've gone through to catch Morrissey perform. But some people get a little out of hand...making false accusations and hasty judgements. We don't have the whole story...maybe not even the real story...so none of us are sure exactly what went down. But just realize this...we all know how Mozzer feels about his money and no being backed by a label this tour...all of the investments (venue costs, merchandise, travel, food...etc.) is coming out of Mozzer's pocket(venues cost a hell of a lot too!). So don't blame him for the shows cancellation. Hope to see you guys in Vegas...again!!! or maybe even...LA? :)

The only thing I want to know is....Why isn't Morrissey playing in Los Angeles? He always plays in Los Angeles! I am totally heartbroken here. As for the fool's who rushed the stage and screwed the whole show up, I hope that you never get tickets to a Morrissey show again! You are not worthy.

Oh...I was going to address this issue also, the whole stage rushing thing. Yeah, it sucks when the shows are stopped, especially during encore songs like Last Night I Dreamt That Somebody Loved Me. Then there's that whole other part that comes into play...the Nostalgia, that whole feeling of being part of a great and lovely tradition. The chance to embrace the lyricist who for so many years has hid away from the eyes of the world. I think everyone watches Live In Dallas to much...or maybe even Hulmerist. Watching as the people run to the stage and cling to Mozzer...wanting to be that person who clings to him like a leach...having the security guards pry you off of him...or not. May the tradition continue...sorry to those who disagree...and if you really want to hear the song that badly...buy the CD.

I'll bet Marr never wussed out of a gig because his back was sore!!!! Any info on East Coast dates yet?? You know he will play here the question is when????? Maybe he could play "Boy with a pain in his back." for Alain HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAAAAAAAAA!!! out!

Warren you ungrateful little bitch...Whyte is a guy with tonnes of talent and charisma who could mop the floor with Marr anyday. How many good songs has Marr done in the last ten fooking years? OHHHH! Yah, Electronic is just SOOO great! While Marr has been wasting away and getting fat with Barnie Sumner and the Pet shop boys, Whyte has been keeping Moz's sorry ass from 'tears for fears'-dom...

I was listening to KROQ this morning and they had reported that Morrissey may cancel Coachella because his drummer had a seizure. They had to cancel last night's show because of this. This really sucks! I am glad I didn't get tickets though because I would really upset. Sorry guys.

i was at the santa barbara show and waited afterwards for the longest for moz to appear.we thought the secuirity gaurds were just pulling our chains by telling us he left so we could leave, but one gaurd swore on his life that he took off immediately after the show.however,we did see alain, boz, and gary getting onto the bus! i asked alain for an autograph and he moaned and said " i'm sorry but i'm really tired" and when i asked if he could at least pose for a pic he just stood still for a second and jumped on the bus.that's more than i can say for gary,he was a jerk we asked if he could just turn around for a quick pic but he ignored us and just gave us our backs.jerk! the show was great! too bad it ended on a bad note.

Ronny and Steel ell,
Get off my back guys!! Geez. Trust me man no one
is in the frickin hospital over back pains alright. Its probably nothing more than a hottub ,rest and a couple of tylenols can't fix. If my guitarist said his back hurt just from playing two gigs in the last year their would be some serious problems. Alain rocks he will be fine trust me. Morrissey-Marr Morrissey-Marr Morrissey-Marr come on people I can't hear you .....Louder.....OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey Unluvuble,

If you and people like yourself didn't always bother these guys for pics and autographs, maybe they'd be a little more friendly. C'mon, they're just dudes who play instruments! They're hardly famous! So if you ask me, it's your own fault that your night eneded on a bad note!

Hey Warren,

I'm with ya man! MORRISSEY - MARR! MORRISSEY - MARR! If Moz doesn't show, he's gonna look like he had one of his band mates "take a dive" just so he wouldn't have to confront Johnny! He's probably been planning this all along. It's called publicity!!!

We'll, I've got my tickets in hand and I'll be there no matter what!

VIVA SMITHS!!!!

Melvin-
The reason that i said the show ended on a bad note was because of the fans that rushed him off stage....you misunderstood me.At least Alain was considerate enough to pose for a pic that takes little effort, but Gary on the other hand didn't.

Hey all,

it was too bad about las vegas cancelling, but i'm still happy to say that i seen him in Arizona and Santa Barbra. He was wonderful in both although EXTREMELY better in SB. That "meat is murder" set was just crazy. I was moved! We'll see what happens in indio

I am so pissed right now, this is nothing but bull, bull, bull. Someone needs to get there @#!!! together, you don't @#!!! with people's time and money like this. I am so, so @#!!!ing pissed right now. Why the @#!!! did they wait till the last minute to cancel. I swear of Morrissey doesn't play coechella I am going to small claims court.

When I heard the House of Blues security announce the show was cancelled because Alain had a seizure I felt really, Really bad for him, because that is horrible, but come on why did they wait till the last @#!!!en minute. I also heard a different story, Alain had been at the Doctor's all day to see if he could get his back working , thats @#!!!, if you wake up crippled in the morning, guess what you might be like that for a few days, why did they wait till it was showtime.

Well the Security need to get there story straight, "Spasm in the Morning", or "Seizure at Soundcheck".

If the story is true i'll be praying for you Alain, if it is a false lie I am not listening to Morrissey for at least 3 days.

What the hell ever happened to "The show must go on"??? While I empathize with Alain's pain, I really believe they could have found a replacement guitarist or to just do without him. I wasn't going to hear the music anyway. I spent over 150 dollars and lost an equal amount in missed wages (not to mention the 7 hours spent waiting in line!!!) to see this show. There had to be at least 1500 people there for the show, and I bet the averaged loss per person was equal to my loss. That's a lot of money and time to just piss away because a guitarist had back spasms. Morrissey is the ONLY person necessary for a Morrissey concert. If you don't believe this is true, just look at how easily Paul Schaffer's band supports guest performers for "Late Night with David Letterman." In the end, I'll recoup $30 of my money, but I don't think my faith will ever be restored in Morrissey concert-going.

Lost Vegas - Fri, Oct 08, 1999 at 19:29:00 (PDT) | #22

Hey Javier, even if they had announced it earlier...what difference would it had made on people who travelled a great distance to see him anyways? They were already in route more than likely...and the promoters waited till the last second in an effort to see if Alain might have felt better and been strong enough to do the show. It sucks...a lot of people spent a lot of money, especially those that flew in from all over...but those are the kind of risks you take when you decide to fly in to see Morrissey. I'm positive Morrrissey lost a small fortune as well...it sucks for all of us. Hopefully, the show will be rescheduled...and I would go through it all over again for the chance to see him and the rest of the guys play...Mozzer...leave El Vez at home next time...get the Reverend Horton Heat to open for you...they may do it...you never know.

TO ALL OF YOU UNGRATEFUL FANS, WHY DON'T YOU RESPECT THE PEOPLE WHO HAD A HAND IN MAKING THE MUSIC FOR MORRISSEY'S TOUCHINGLY, BEAUTIFUL POEMS. CONCERNING ALAIN, YOU ALL SIT THERE AND LOVE THEM, BUT WHEN ONE OF THEM GETS HURT AND NEEDS SOME MEDICAL ATTENTION YOU SCREW THEM OVER. I HOPE YOU DON'T DO THIS WITH YOUR OWN FAMILY & FRIENDS. WHO CARES IF GARY DIDN'T WANT TO POSE FOR YOU, MAYBE HE HAD SOMETHING ELSE ON HIS MIND. NEXT THING YOU'LL BE WHINING ABOUT IS THAT NONE OF THEM WILL COME OVER FOR DINNER.

Truely Disappointed-
A person like you is a true disappointment to REAL Morrissey fans. How selfish of you to sit here and be pissed off at Alain for having to go to the hospital! Who gives a damn if you lost out on some money...if you were going to cry about it then maybe you just shouldn't have spent the money in the first place. Morrissey has a band and if one of the members in his band has to be rushed to the hospital then there is no show! That's not unreasonable. It's nice to know how you turn on someone the second they don't give you what you want.

speaking for those who actually went to Vegas, and spent money on an auto, a plane ticket, a taxi, a hotel, food, time off work, I think we see it a little diferent than all you Idle Morrissey fans who for some reason couldn't make it. I am so angry because the security couldnt get their story straight and that really made me wonder, one staff member said he was at the doctors all day and that was straight out bull@#!!!. I was mad because it seemed like a lie the security made up, but I guess it's not a lie, and Alain was in bad condition, I hope he's okay, and I hope those people who spent $100's and $100's of dollars are okay to and made it home safely because they are part of Morrissey as much as Alain is.

How many of you were actually in Vegas? It's very interesting to me that most of the people who are telling us Vegas show fans to keep our chin up are doing so with memories of SB or AZ. Without going into great detail, this is the fourth time Morrissey has screwed me out of something. He is selfish. We all know that. Those of you who defend him are deluding yourselves. I feel very bad for Alain. I don't wish harm on anyone. Think of this-acoustic show. How about Boz playing as much as he can without Alain? It would have been worth it to the almost 2000 fans in line. Keep all of this in mind the next time you defend our "idol." Remember when Bill Berry had an explosion in his brain? REM got a new touring drummer the NEXT DAY!I saw the look on a girl's face walking away from the venue in Vegas. She was bawling. I recognized that look---I've had it on my face more than a few times in the past decade. I came all the way from TX to be let down once again. I talked to Boz a couple of hours before the debacle and he thought the show was on. I heard the spasm happened at the last minute.Keep this in mind: there has been no apology or explanation from an official source. Morrissey knows sites like this exist. He could release a statement through Eliot Roberts to morrissey-solo.com. He won't. I don't think he cares. Someone earlier mentioned that he's paying for this tour and it hurts him too. Right. It's just money. He has more than enough. This is more important than money. These are my two cents. He has let me down once agin. What a shock!

Thanks, Growup007.
I am not asking for anyone to turn on their friends and family. In fact I think that's what the whole point was. The people responsible for this fiasco (and it's not the injury that was the fiasco, but the handling of the injury) turned on a thousand or so "friends" and it wasn't like the situation was so traumatic. It's not like someone got shot or something moments before the doors opened. They knew about the possibility the night before! They did nothing. They posted nothing. Where was the consideration?? Respect for others obliges one to tell them about what's going on so others can make informed choices. How hard would this have been, "Attention Morrissey fans. Last night Alain Whyte suffered a back injury that threatens the possibility of this show going on as scheduled. If the show does get cancelled, we will try to reschedule the show or we will refund your money. Please keep in mind that no attempt will be made to contract a replacement guitarist, so if Alain is not feeling better by the time the gates open, the show *will* be cancelled." Those people who did fly and drive in from long distances could have made informed choices on their own to either stay and wait. They could have decided whether or not they wanted to stick it out and gamble on those odds in the city of Lady Luck or to cash their chips and have fun elsewhere. Personally, having already seen him in Tempe, I'd have walked, but I'm not a betting person. My walking would have not have made me wish Alain well any less, and if they show had opened as planned, well then I would have lost. But I'd have done it of my own volition/on my own terms, not on some @#!!!bag promoter's terms. The only reason they waited to tell us was because *they* thought that there was the slightest possibility that the show could go on as planned, and they wouldn't have to suffer any financial losses themselves...or negative backlash. I guess they can have both. The fact that they'd wager so heavily against the odds by not speaking a peep could only be idiocy.
