Morrissey A-Z: "Striptease With a Difference"

Love this song and always wanted a proper release. Are these two different versions though? Sound exactly the same.

    Morrissey A-Z: "Piccadilly Palare"

So good to see you with your lovely face and hair

    Morrissey A-Z: "Papa Jack"

I love this song. It’s almost like he’s telling us his own story through the life of someone else. Like Boxers and a fair few more.

Morrissey A-Z: "My Love, I'd Do Anything for You"

I always thought it was “blotted out”

Dennis Herring (producer) / Twitter - Extraordinary story about the Smiths' songwriting and recording

It’s the vocal melodies, created by Morrissey, that elevate the songs to genius level especially with those lyrics. So Johnny Marr tricked Morrissey about 70 times by editing his musical parts back in? Wow. And Morrissey never cottoned on. Wow.

The Telegraph: "No record label will touch Morrissey – and that’s the music industry’s loss" (June 4, 2021)

Sheila, Take A Bow was released after Strangeways was recorded. The ‘video’ for Sheila was a tv appearance and Johnny left not long after.

The Telegraph: "No record label will touch Morrissey – and that’s the music industry’s loss" (June 4, 2021)

Morrissey is a great artist but he is a perverse conundrum of a person. The Smiths reportedly split because Morrissey wouldn’t make a video for Sheila, Take A Bow. It was the final straw for Johnny Marr. Then what does Morrissey do? Make video after video for The Smiths and his solo releases. He...

    Whale blubber Wilde

Thanks. I still hear “Wailed-a-lover Wilde” which I doubt it is.

    Whale blubber Wilde

Is that really what Morrissey sings at the end of Cemetry Gates? Only just found that out from iTunes lyrics!

Morrissey A-Z: "The Last of the Famous International Playboys"

Is it when the camera appears to smash into him?

    Morrissey A-Z: "Jim Jim Falls"

I think the song‘s narrator who “fooled and fell” at Jim Jim Falls wants the potential jumpers to join them or stop wasting time. It’s typical Morrissey. Dark and funny. The ghost wants company.

Different mixes and edits of The Smiths and Morrissey songs

I’m interested in different mixes and edits of songs by The Smiths and Morrissey and where they could have been or can still be found either on vinyl, CD or download.

Morrissey A-Z: "I Will See You in Far-Off Places"

I love this song and recall hundreds and hundreds of of people chanting along with the “If the USA doesn’t bomb you” line at a show. Not many artists generate such passion in this sanitised world. Is there one Johnny Marr song that is as potent, as musically interesting or as playful as this?

    Morrissey A-Z: "He Cried"

The title is also a nice nod to The Shangri-Las who had a song with the same name. I am a big fan of the Maladjusted album and this track.

Morrissey A-Z: "Get off the Stage"

I’d rather listen to this than My Life is a Succession of People Saying Goodbye. I can, however, live without both.

Morrissey A-Z: "Father Who Must Be Killed, The"

It’s obviously about a murder-suicide and the fact that there will be “No Bible-belters to mess with me” when she is dead gives a pretty big clue as to the motive for her actions. I think it’s a wonderful lyric.

Stephen Street says he would still work with Morrissey

It’s a tricky one but I imagine there was not a 50/50 split initially between royalties and after the success of the first few Morrissey solo singles Mr. Street wanted a bigger share. I can see both sides but Morrissey does seem to veer towards meanness. I think Streety would have made a lot of...
