Even the official Morrissey facebook page is continuing to post misinformation about 'Fantastic Bird' - with a new advert stating that "Packaged in a PVC bag and audio all on one side, these tracks are taken from the Southpaw Grammar album sessions."

'Fantastic Bird' was produced by Mick Ronson, who was dead by the time of Southpaw Grammar. Unless this is some completely previously unknown re-recorded version? Doesn't Moz even check the sleeves and press releases these days?

snip...
Did you edit your original reply later to include that link? It was me who marked it as Informative, ironically.
Yes, about 10 minutes after posting it :)
(only just noticed your edit asking me about my own ?).

FWD.

All roads lead to Morrissey on this one.
He oversaw (and was therefore aware/checked) the 2009 edition of Southpaw Grammar and it would have been his choice to put Fantastic Bird on the Legacy Edition in lieu of a track like You Must Please Remember or similar.
The closest to explanation comes from the liner notes he wrote for SG, 2009:

"Fantastic Bird" is an unmixed throwaway, this vocal being the one and only ever attempted. Everything has its place and is part of the riddle unravelled."

Which is, IMHO, Morrissey code for: 'Why? Because I can.'

Ahhh, just wondering if it's sheer coincidence... they (BMG) are supposedly (I think I read on here) re-issuing Southpaw Grammar (& another album can't recall) at some point, which obv. features those 2 tracks which you mention?? Interesting.
The original Southpaw record didn't have those songs, so I wouldn't expect them on the reissued vinyl unless it's a double vinyl. I can live without those offcuts and bsides on vinyl. Would LOVE to see Nobody Loves us on the record though (b-side to Dagenham Dave).

After much digging, it appears these tracks are taken from the 2009 'Legacy Edition' of Southpaw Grammar.
This appears confirmed by Long Live Vinyl Magazine.
The magazine isn't out yet, so please excuse the potato quality of the image:

(Thanks to 'concertleaks' on Twitter for scanning all the RSD info from the April edition).

So, nothing unheard by the looks of it, but a nice collectors item nonetheless.

It's funny. I know what you mean about collector's item. But 'collector's item' could also mean 'yet another excuse to waste your money'. I dunno. It's just I think companies could release lovely picture discs etc. but with good songs/loads of extras on them. Instead they seem to go out of their way to rip people off by providing the bare minimum at extortionate prices. As long as people keep buying they'll keep doing it.

Indeed - same as it ever was.
The feature here is the transparency of the vinyl and it does look good, but had it contained an unheard track... If only!
I'm guessing that the use of that image several times prior is ultimately how it got used on the 10".
The RSD offerings have always been a bit odd though. Reading between the lines: putting out a record as a possible precursor to a 25th anniversary reissue of SG that requires no studio time or personnel / production seems a no brainer from a cost / return perspective.
I would wholeheartedly agree though: reissuing all the albums chronologically and with exhaustive extras is probably what most collectors would clamour for (look at the mishmash of Prince releases to see it done badly).

FWD.

Now the RSD list is out in the UK/USA, Rough Trade posted details to confirm my source's 2000 UK copies:

I've not had time to look at the US lists and it seems bizarre that a US shop leaked the details of something that might not be available in the States!?
More information as it becomes available.

FWD.

(@lanterns, this is now looking to be a UK exclusive as you queried - more when known).

Southpaw and Maladjusted have already been reissued with extra tracks - all these 3 tracks feature on the reissue of Southpaw.

Not deserving of its own thread, so left here.

Silly little snide remark in this listing for the RSD 10" photo-vinyl:

I wish every record came with a sharp and concise assessment of the artist's character. Would make shopping for music so much easier...

These little pricks just can't help themselves can they?

.

The vinyl will start showing up in record stores very soon and will be available possibly before the 'drop date' depending on your store's intended policy on making RSD stuff available in light of covid etc.

It's hard when you want to be wOkE™️ but also want to make money selling overpriced records...

í was going to pop into Monorail but í am assuming that the Fatwa is still in with those boys.

Even a brief glance at the RSD list could warrant a few 'flags' over ACTUAL CONTENT. But í guess misogyny & homophobia are all just rock & roll...

I'm quite happy to have a reason to ignore all of those wan vintage clad moral crusaders.

The wind will change & their faces will be stuck like that.

Well, this came very early for RSD:
(now looking forward to the HMV gold live record in Sept).

Wouldn't surprise me if the Moz one is on Ebay before most places have unpackaged their deliveries.

My Mum used to tell me that all the time. í still think there might be something to it...

Yep, it’s too bad solo will never be a safe space where he could come on and answer questions from fans.

Hey Moz, thanks for doing this! Longtime fan here. How much longer do you think it'll be before the Jews reach the final stage of their plan to destroy White culture with their mass immigration schemes, race riots, pornography and drugs?
