Johnny Marr on The Smiths TOTP debut in today's 'Guardian'

As part of The Guardian's 'history of modern music' today it's INDIE. In the 50 key events in the history of indie music they decree that The Smiths debut on Top Of The Pops in November 1983 is No.28. They've got Johnny Marr to pen a nice little piece ~

Lovely little piece with some amusing moments - "I tried to evolve into one of the Ronettes. By the time we did William, it Was Really Nothing, I had a beehive, and we'd get boys turning up at gigs with beehives".

Despite denying "an ego the size of Chicago" he seems to be claiming a lot for himself. If he really was the origin of all that proved successful how come his post-Smiths career has been so dwarfed by Morrissey's?

In what way did Marr say that he was the 'origin of all that proved successful '?
