Manchester map pays homage to the streets of The Smiths

On first inspection it looks like a regular map of Stretford. But look closer to see how streets are named after Smiths songs.

There’s The Queen is Dead Road, Cemetry Gates Street and Paint a Vulgar Picture Avenue.

Regular street names have been changed to the legendary band’s song-titles in this stunning work by artist Youngerman.

Called “Back to the Old House” it features all 73 Smiths songs, names of band members and iconic locations or themes relevant to the group such as Gladioli Avenue and Wilde Street.

But Smiths fans will have to be quick to get their hands on the extremely limited edition work - only 150 have been produced.

Youngerman said: “Back to the Old House fills the real streets around 384 King’s Road, Stretford with the songs and band members of The Smiths.

“The letter M - for Morrissey and Marr - marks the exact spot where their incredible song-writing union came together.

“Fans can find their favourite Smiths song, every single one is included in the design, as well as a number of key words from Moz’s masterful lyrics. It is for Smiths fans, from Smiths fans.

“Youngerman is to present the first four in the edition as framed prints to the former members of the band.”

The prints, 50cm x 70cm are all hand drawn and then completed digitally. They cost £195 unframed.

Each is individually hand numbered and embossed with the Youngerman seal. Prints are made in Manchester - the home of The Smiths.

Youngerman map designs have been reproduced with permission from Geographers’ A-Z Map Co Ltd.

“Back To The Old House” is part of the ‘Sounds From The Streets’ limited edition series of high quality British made map prints. Youngerman has already created street maps which pay tribute to The Beatles, Clash, Jam, Bob Dylan and Sex Pistols.

Celebrity owners of Youngerman’s work include Sir Paul McCartney and members of The Jam and Clash.

Back to the Old House print:

Back to the Old House is limited to 150 prints. Hand printed Giclée print on 285gsm Hahnemuhle Fine Art Pearl Paper. Dimensions: 50cm x 70cm (unframed). Each print comes with the official Youngerman stamp and is hand numbered

The bright white of FineArt Pearl enables impressive contrasts and pictorial depth in black and white or colour photography. The special coating provides a pearl-finish.

It's without a doubt the most elegant and most visually rich paper for most types of photographic application.

FineArt Pearl is much whiter than other papers in its class, and consequently blacks appear deeper than when printed on less capable paper stocks.

Orders will be dispatched within 7 days and delivered to your door in a cardboard tube.
