There was a time, when he hopelessly poor, and we liked him more. In that time, when not corrupted by money and isolation, he knew there were some bad people on the right. Now, he wants us to vote for them. Money changes everything.

🙄

He picked up on a real problem - that identity politics was creating serious wedge issues & he wrongly thought some daft feminist would solve it.

It's the exact same pressure that caused the trans-terf war & the Labour antisemitism row.

It's got nothing to do with money & if he was less isolated he might have aligned with a Twitter tribe - but that can be worse - you can lose your entire creative energy to fighting online, like Graham Linehan.

He's a socialist. He wants to liberate the people so they can collectively rule themselves. That it always goes tits up is besides the point. So not a believer in authoritarianism.

Nice try. Again, I know the man. Don’t try an pull the wool over my eyes. George is no liberal.

It's delusional to believe that Morrissey doesn't think For Britain are right wing. It's also pretty silly to believe that Morrissey not being a huge seller any more is down to his political comments, and not the fact that he is a 62 year old man that has made poor career decision after poor career decision for at least a decade.
In 2020, Morrissey was suddenly dropped from the new music playlist of every indie radio station in the country (except one show on BBC Scotland). No-one would play his new songs for the first time in his entire career. Most worrying of all, Europe's biggest station (Radio 2) wouldn't play the new songs after 20+ years of support. Smiths nights at clubs gleefully refused to play any Morrissey songs, several indie record shops and websites refused to stock him. Even an owner of advertising space took down the posters that his record company had presumably paid for.
His sales took an absolute clobbering. Low in High School did 25,000 in week 1 - Dog on a Chain just over 5,000 and then straight out of the top 100 in the second week. Completely unprecedented. And it's not true to say he'd been in decline for a decade. Low in High School (2017) did quite a lot better than World Peace (2014), and his winter 2018 UK arena tour was probably his most successful ever, solo or Smith.
So, he was effectively 'cancelled' in 2020 due to his unfortunate support for the far right and other related comments, which have still to be retracted (although as well all know, he's also supported left-wing figures but sadly not with such wholehearted ringing endorsements as he gave For Britain).
The fanbase has been slashed. But it's still as big (or bigger than) other well known UK solo acts like Damon Albarn, Billy Bragg and Sting who have all put out new albums in recent weeks, so the figures should still add up for a new deal - just not the kind of deal he's been offered in the past.

Indeed, and just as the voting public are free to put their x in whatever box they like, the buying public are free to spend their money on whatever they like. And right now they ain't spending it on Morrissey. Who said all those things about supporting Waters and Farage? Was it someone else? Who is to blame for his pitiful public standing now but himself? It's almost as if the public don't want to give their money to someone who has professed the views he has. And that, ultimately, is where the buck stops. As I've said all along - this is all about the money, and it always has been. The phrase is not 'money is the root of all evil', or slight paraphrase, but 'the love of money is the root of all evil'. He has surrounded himself with yes men, and if you want to work with him then NDAs are the order of the day. With his wealth comes isolation, and no one to tell him he's messed up. Well, he's finding out the hard cash way that this route is his own downfall, and his own making.
So firstly how many 1980's artists are selling boatloads of albums these days? Even U2 sell a microscopic levels of albums compared to what they used to, however somehow Uncle Dingbat has managed to conflate this decline in sales with Morrissey's political views.

Have his views affected album sales and concert tickets in the UK? Yes I'd say to some extent it has hit his back pocket but to some extent the decline is simply due to age and relevance. He'd certainly help his concert ticket sales if he performed more fan friendly setlists. In other words, it's a multi faceted issue.

Now as for the NDA. for f***ssake any C-list celebrity up will make you sign one of those when working with them, so stop trying to position this as some sort of scoop.

But you know that he's also supported various left-wing figures in the last 5 years or so, don't you? As well as declaring a liking for George Galloway, he urged Americans to vote for Bernie Sanders in the 2016 election (or whenever it was) and made some vaguely positive noises about Corbyn too, so why do you make out that he is completely right wing, when he clearly isn't?
He's just absolutely muddled when it comes to politics hence the mess he's got himself into. Anyone with any political intelligence will have known that promoting For Britain was utter madness. But he probably never even read their manifesto - he just liked the sound of the woman in charge (who had flitted between parties including Labour). Politically idiotic, gullible, muddled and foolish, yes. Genuinely right wing, no.

This was f***ing tragic. Goddamn this bullshit virus. I hate it with all my being. The Upstarts are, thanks to M, one of my favorite punk bands. Put on ‘England’, ‘Jimmy’ or ‘Last Night Another Soldier’ and I BEAM.

God bless you, Mensi.
All those songs are shite. If 'England' came out today it would be banned by radio stations, it would be seen as right wing propaganda, the Skinny loser guy would be having a fit. The song wasn't helped in that Mensi didn't know that the colours on the flag of England weren't red, white and blue either.

Put on 'The murder of Liddle Towers' or 'Police Oppression' for vintage Upstarts material.

RIP Mensi

@Uncleskinny

Just to be all inclusive....

maybe in his next video he should have someone writing the words

There are some bad people on the left and the right’

would be closer to the truth.

VIVA MOZ ....

FAR FOWARD MOZ !!!

:tiphat:

They're not far right, simply pro Britain. What the hell is wrong with being patriotic? As an American I'm disgusted how you British shit on your own country and it's history.
It's more important to virtue signal than to see what's right in front of you these days mate. being semi patriotic is what on all day every day. Atrocities committed by Muslims are an almost daily occurance these days in the UK. Certainly weekly. They barely get reported by our MSM. We have to be tolerant of the most intolerant people on earth. If you speak out you are demonized. Meanwhile Moz wears a badge and everyone had a meltdown......everyone knowing the badge was merely on humanitarian grounds related to animal welfare. Everyone knowing that Moz didn't vote for them. If he did would that have been worse than voting Labour or Tory BTW?

You see unlike the trolls on here Mensi actually knew Morrissey, I think he'd be quick to spot a 'Nazi' ? Don't you? Motherf***ers can't even give it a rest for 5 minutes. The guy is barely cold and the 'nazi' and 'racist' bullshit starts before the end of page one. Shame on them.

RIP Mensi, hopefully he didn't spend any time on here in his last days. Life is way too short.

You're the ones who ignore nearly everything he's ever said because for some bizarre reason you want to spend your time on an artist you think is a thick Nazi.
I never called him a Nazi. You don't make any effort and want to regulate here with a rough blade. And you should never accuse a German of something like that nowadays. Unlike you, I seem to have learned at school what the difference is between a Nazi and an artist who struggles for relevance and thinks to impose his immature, crude political opinion on anyone who asks or not. Think before you write.

Take the blinkers off. Morrissey asked his UK fans to vote for the Far Right. That’s a fact. He did it. Unforgivable. He went from telling people not to bother voting at all, to then tell them to vote “For Britain“

Mensi was extremely vocal in being the absolute opposite in his opinions. You‘re comments are not only ill-informed, but disrespectful to the man he was.
For Britain are far right? Hilarious.

You were backing up a troll account who was accusing him of being a Nazi.

He is perpetually asked about politics by journalists trying to whip up controversy.

And it has nothing to do with trying to be relevant or imposing himself - he has consistently linked the treatment of animals & the news to his mental health.

It's a by-product of growing up in the remains of a country that used to be the center of a global empire. When I went to school I was taught to feel shame over our country and it's imperialistic past. If you are English, you are not supposed to feel 'pride', as we were the evil villains. Any other culture however, should be celebrated. That's my experience anyway.

He screwed up himself, not the others. Stop constantly absolving him of any blame. And damn it, stop sweeping the problems under the carpet so you can have a supposedly perfect World of Morrissey again. If somebody like Dodwell posts a pic of him on Twitter with the FB button, it only goes to show, that the remaining die-hard fans still dont't get it

Wow what a crusader you are. How far off is your Utopia? I want to make sure I stay well clear of its postcode.

I don't think a singer with lifelong depression is to blame because some hack wants clickbait.

I have no idea what Fiona's particular motivation is, she hasn't said.

And as for Morrissey's world - he hasn't been well since he collapsed in 2009. And I don't see it improving. Monstering him is just grotesque.

Is this all you ever post?
“Godspeed” such and such a body. 🙄
I come here 22 years ago, Oye Esteban Tour, 1999, saw Morrissey my country , the Netherland on May1 1991, I only post when there's realy news, no forums, just every day check. Thanks David Tsjeng for keeping on the good work....theres a basement in my personal acount, so check before you write.
