Mozipedia - your thoughts?

My sister's boyfriend just gave me a Westfield Mall Giftcard for $30 for my birthday I intend to use for the Mozipedia. :D Thanks Mark! :thumb:

I really enjoy it. It's the sort of book I dip in and out of after having listened to some Morrissey or The Smiths rather than read cover-to-cover although obviously you could.

I got my copy last week and brought in along on my anniversary get-away on the weekend. If you want to know if it's any good...well the missus wasn't very pleased at the amount of time I spent on it rather than her. The dog house isn't too bad after you get a nice fluffly pillow...

Seriously though. It's a great "book". It's not meant to be read front to back. You basically start with one entry which leads you to flick over to another then another until it's about 3am or the wife tells you to put that f'ing book down.

It's a pleasure to have on your desk. It has a lovely, heavy, serious feel about it, really.

Definitely good to look up a random article, and follow the breadcrumbs to nothing, as 'Born in 1975' said.

As a serious Morrissey fan, it's a necessary tool to equip yourself with an arsenal of Moz-trivia, which is very detailed but presented light-heartedly.

Wow, What an amazing book. It's made like a textbook. I want to take a class on Morrissey. I want to major in Morrissey. Can I get a Masters or Phd in The Art of Morrissey?

Seriously, Goddard comes close. He could teach a class on Morrissey. My wife bought it for me today. We finally had a few extra bucks so she got it for me. Hey she's still not a Moz fan yet, but even she was impressed with the book. So worth it!

It was an extravagant purchase for me. I've read a few Smiths/Moz books in the past that weren't that great, but I know anything with Simon Goddard's name on it is worth every penny.

got a copy today, not sure why i didnt get it before, interesting book, nice pics, well worth a look. xx

Is the poet Louis MacNeice mentioned? Because 'Prayer before Birth' may express the philosophy behind why someone would go through years of refusal, and contains a clinching last line:

Louis MacNeice - Prayer before Birth

I am not yet born; O hear me.
Let not the bloodsucking bat or the rat or the stoat or the
club-footed ghoul come near me.

I am not yet born, console me.
I fear that the human race may with tall walls wall me,
with strong drugs dope me, with wise lies lure me,
on black racks rack me, in blood-baths roll me.

I am not yet born; provide me
With water to dandle me, grass to grow for me, trees to talk
to me, sky to sing to me, birds and a white light
in the back of my mind to guide me.

I am not yet born; forgive me
For the sins that in me the world shall commit, my words
when they speak me, my thoughts when they think me,
my treason engendered by traitors beyond me,
my life when they murder by means of my
hands, my death when they live me.

I am not yet born; rehearse me
In the parts I must play and the cues I must take when
old men lecture me, bureaucrats hector me, mountains
frown at me, lovers laugh at me, the white
waves call me to folly and the desert calls
me to doom and the beggar refuses
my gift and my children curse me.

I am not yet born; O hear me,
Let not the man who is beast or who thinks he is God
come near me.

I am not yet born; O fill me
With strength against those who would freeze my
humanity, would dragoon me into a lethal automaton,
would make me a cog in a machine, a thing with
one face, a thing, and against all those
who would dissipate my entirety, would
blow me like thistledown hither and
thither or hither and thither
like water held in the
hands would spill me.

Let them not make me a stone and let them not spill me.
Otherwise kill me.

Is Morrissey influenced by this poet or it's only a thing related to?

How does this book compare to STSYL as far as Smiths content goes(is it a rehash of that book)? Is it ~40% Smiths related, or more?

I just got my copy yesterday. Its a light blue cover, believe its the UK version? It was like $20 on Amazon.

Its different than STSYL.....it gives tidbits (some are a few pages) of info/stories to certain items from over the Smiths career.....so it might give details on Phil Powell or info on James Dean and how he played a part in Morrissey's career, etc.

Good find. I find it hard to believe Trouble Loves Me wasn't influenced by this.

Cool. I'm gonna pick up a copy.

I just got a copy. The U.S. version is light blue as well.

I expected a lot of overlap (with the song entries), but even when I looked up some songs and compared both books (STSYL), there was still some new info to be found. Nice book.

I Enjoyed flipping through it late last night as I played some Smiths music in the background. While it drizzled. It was perfect.
