Revelation tracks discussion

Very nice sounding versions of BTH and SWAD. HLU and LOD are amazing.

Makes you wonder who compiled this...

I LOVE them both, absolutely. All the excitement I had for the past few days, and I wasn't disappointed at all! Yay!

Of course I'll have to listen to them both more times before I decide my final opinions on them.

Having a version of Born To Hang where the music isn't all drowned out makes me very happy, too!

I posted in another thread, but Please Help the Cause Against Loneliness is definately different than the 3 versions already leaked.

I'm so happy right now.

Fantastic Bird sounds fully mixed - the vocal is brought upfront so much more that it sounds more complete than the version on Southpaw redux. The solo and "bird" effects have more pop.

While the quality of Lifeguard and Happy Lovers is certainly evident, they are such carbon copies of the late Smiths jangle sound that, in retrospect, it was a wise choice to forego releasing them. Lifeguard sounds more like Johnny Marr than any other Morrissey solo song.

Concur that PHTCAL is a different mix than has been heard so far - sounds like there are additional guitars on this one.

Happy Lovers is such a snapshot of the Viva Hate period. I love it. Not so much Lifeguard. They both sound un-filled, not as heavily produced as the tracks that made it, which is only to be expected.

yes I agree, Happy Lovers United is slightly better.
the whole thing is obviously amazing.

Just one small contribution. The lyrics of Lifeguard are (I think) slightly different to those posted by Stephane at pjlm

Controlling the length and the breath of your pool
I call your name from the vestibule
Lifeguard

I think that the first word is 'Patrolling' not 'Controlling'.

What do others think?

other notes on this lp say that happy lovers is from the 'bona drag'
sessions (whatever that means, it was a collection of already-released
tracks for godssakes) ...

>>>
Side A
Striptease With A Difference (Kill Uncle sessions)
Please Help The Cause Against Loneliness (Viva Hate sessions)
Fantastic Bird (Your Arsenal sessions)
You Should Have Been Nice To Me (Southpaw Grammar sessions)

Side B
Lifeguard On Duty (Viva Hate sessions)
Happy Lovers United (Bona Drag sessions)
Born To Hang (Kill Uncle sessions)
Oh Phony (Bona Drag sessions)
Honey You Know Where To Find Me (Southpaw Grammar sessions)
>>>>

lifeguard is definetly viva hate era (compare it with bengali in platforms
soundwise) but happy lovers ... compare that with the tracks mike and
andy played on ... something like lucky lisp ... they are both unfinished
tracks but i think happy lovers united is mike, andy & craig

oh i'm torn now ... the guitar sound is very similar to
"Oh well i'll never learn" ...

nope, originally Bona Drag should have been a studio album according to the Mozipedia.
Striptease With A Difference & Oh Phoney were parts of the Bona Drag Sessions

agree on patrolling - also i think it's probably length and breadth of the pool

i think worse songs have been released ... tony the pony and journalists who lie
are unforgivable in my book ... many many to the uploaders!

Happy Lovers United is a pretty little track!

Now I wish someone would leak all the as-yet-unreleased Maladjusted-era songs.

Nice to time-travel back to 1987/88 again... while I can see why neither of the two new tracks was released at the time, they could have made decent enough b-sides. Both have great vocals and "Happy Lovers United" is particularly splendid. Obviously, if they appeared now as new tracks they would be completely slated!

Happy lovers is clearly post Viva Hate. It has to be a recording for the unfinished 1990 album. No Reilly on guitar, sounds like Armstrong (sessioneer around this time).
Could have been an acceptable B-side. Better than Journalists, f.e.

I didn't notice the spelling mistake :) Yes, definitely 'breadth'.

I can see why both songs were never finished and not officially released, but it's always exciting to hear new stuff.

I wonder when Morrissey will make a statement via TTY about this - surely he didn't want them seeing the light of day - and he's not making any cash from it - he will no doubt issue a warning to fans not to buy.

People have been telling Alain they've listened to it on facebook, so I think it's only a matter of time.
