Oh what drama when Sweden made it into the quarter finals by beating Latvia with a goal in an empty net. Latvia had to beat Sweden to have a chance to reach the quarter finals and at 4-4 they were playing 6 against 4 and when Sweden had a full side again Latvia kept playing without a goalie pressing hard for a winner but instead Sweden scored the deciding 5-4 goal and me and Pilla cheered loudly so the neighbours heard.

The 4-4 goal from Latvia was controversial and was clearly offside so when Sweden wanted a second opinion and the referees still gave it new rules state the side that demanded a review will have a player sent off for 2 minutes if the verdict is not in their favour leading to the great drama.

Now the World Cup starts for real but Sweden have a final group game against the mighty russians who lead the table comfortably.

Sweden are now third in the table and looking at the other group it looks likely Sweden will face USA or Canada in the quarter finals depending on the results in the final group games.

Well done to Great Britain who by beating France remain in the World Cup next year as France won't be in it. A heroic win over France after GB lost all their previous games but just when they needed a win they got it.

They should return home as heroes.

Sweden outplayed by the russians in the last group game after Sweden took the lead but in the second period Russia scored 6 goals.

This means that Sweden and Finland meet in the quarter final which is the ultimate hate game and no world cup is complete without the two old rivals squaring up against each other.

That game is very open but my prediction for the other 3 quarter finals is that the home nation the Czech's will beat Germany and Russia will be too much for USA and Canada will beat the swiss.

Looking even further head that should mean that Canada face the home nation in the semis while Russia will meet Finland or Sweden in the other semi final.

A Canada-Russia final is the likely outcome.

Canada are in the semis after being a goal down late on against the swiss but with 4/10 of a second left Canada equalised and sent the game into sudden death where they play 3 against 3 and Stone scored the winner for the canadians.

Russia reached the semis after beating USA in a game described by some as the best game in world cup history.

In half an hour, at 19:15 UK time Sweden take on eternal rivals Finland in the ultimate hate game between the two countries. If Sweden beat Finland they face Canada in the semis. If that happens I wanna watch it with Rifke sitting in my lap.
