Unloading my (modest) vault of Smiths/Morrissey unreleased versions

Hi all,

I've been on Morrissey-Solo since the beginning and have been privy to a modest number of alternate versions of Smiths & Morrissey tracks over the years. I shared a couple of them five years back (Irish Blood demo & Let Me Kiss You demo), in the hopes that others would follow suit. While I don't think my gesture precipitated this recent windfall of unreleased tracks: the Viva Hate and Vauxhall outtakes, the tracks from Mr. Reynolds, the Revelation EP, etc., perhaps it'll help keep them flowing.

After hearing just how good "Lifeguard on Duty" is, twenty years after its recording, I'm motivated to stop hoarding and start sharing!

I'll stop in once a day and add a new track. It'll take about a week to post them all.

Cheers.

OK, that first one was just a teaser!

Next up was my Holy Grail of Smiths versions. I'd heard rumours of it for 20 years, but only got my hands (ears) on it fairly recently.

(Forgive me if these have already leaked -- I've never seen them posted on here, but that doesn't mean they didn't leak while I wasn't paying attention.)

:eek::eek::eek:

I had that version of Frankly, Mr Shankly years ago when I was downloading everything I could get my hands on (first started listening to Smiths). I crashed the computer and lost the track - before I knew it was valuable!

grlmopz, you may just have launched yourself into the running for best thread of 2009!

Wow. Thank you for these. I wasn't aware the LMKY demo was also out. Anyone have the link for that?

This, along with the demos for Irish Blood, English Heart and Let Me Kiss You (see earlier in this thread) are together referred to as The Cherokee Sessions (according to Alain Whyte). I believe that these were the first tracks recorded with Deano -- his job interview.

I thought I would never hear the "horn" version of Frankly, Mr. Shankly. Many, many thanks.

This version of LMKY is a little rough around the edges, but I do like the end better than the fade on YATQ. Any chance the version of Teenage Dad recorded at this session is coming down the pike?

I actually don't have the version of Teenage Dad from this session, so if it does show up, it won't be from me. Anyone?

I know EXACTLY what you mean about feeling you'd never hear the horn version of Frankly. I'd known about it since the late 80s and didn't get my hands on it until 2-3 years ago.

Yeah! I hope that people do decide to follow suit, although I have my doubts.

Here's one more good Smiths track for your listening pleasure. While "Frankly, Mr. Shankly" with horns was on my radar for 20 years, I'd never heard of an alternate version of this:

Which makes me wonder: How many unreleased studio versions of Smiths songs are there? My guess: lots.
