Leering since '97
I had written a long post to accompany this poll about the humour found in Morrissey's solo albums, but my login timed out and I lost it!

I realize it's easier to think in terms of individual songs, but which Morrissey album (Bona Drag included) do you think best shows off Morrissey's sense of humour, both in terms of quality and quantity?

Didn't want to over-analyse (count the quips, catalogue the catty remarks etc), so just let intuition guide me.

My intuition kept chanting: Your Arsenal!

Kill Uncle. I suppose. But I can't remember if Maladjusted was funny or not, it's been a while. But I seem to recall it being pretty much no laughing matter...

since nobody wants to list the jokes, I will.

YOUR ARSENAL -itself it can be a joke "your arse an' all"

Someone on your side
Oh, give yourself a break before you break down
You're gonna need someone on your side
And here I am!
And here I am!
Well, you don't need to look so pleased

The National Front Disco
the whole song

Certain People I Know
I take the cue from certain people I know
I use the cue and then I hand it on to you
And when I swing it so it catches his eye
Weren't you there? - You'd have died!
I trust the views of certain people I know
They look at danger and they laugh their heads off
Their clothes are imitation George The Twenty-Third
Don't you find this absurd?

We hate It When Our Friends Become Successful
the whole song

You Are The One For Me, Fatty
the whole song

Tomorrow
Would you put your arms around me?
(I won't tell anyone)
You don't think I'll make it
I never said I wanted to!
Well did I?
All I ask of you... oh...
Is: would you tell me that you love me

of course these jokes work in the context of the song and the entire record.
it's just my point of view

Good job, man. Album title itself -- yes.

What's life like as a Moz fan in Rome these days, now that it's some years after his sojourn there?

In Japan the situation is subarctic...

think some people read dislike instead of humerous

kill uncle is everything but humerous, well sing your life is uplifting

but most of the songs are bit about backside of life.

asian rut
mute witness
end of the family line
theres a place in hell
our frank
found found found

are not fun songs, or at least I can't find the hunour, maybe a bit in mute witness

my vote goes to Quarry

dissing america, dykes, ganglife, crashing bores

arsenal is a good 2nd

my ghott, kill uncle most votes of humerous, some people have strange
kinda way of humour:crazy:

No humor in Our Frank or Mute Witness? Absurd!
And he wasn't "dissing dykes". It's a call to be who you are.

Lyrically, Quarry was a laugh a minute. :lbf:

America is Not the World, policemen with smelly uniforms, mooning people, crashing bores, getting dragged in shite, etc.

Love it, love it, love it.

Kill Uncle. I love it, and it's full of wit. Your Arsenal comes in second.

It's easily Kill Uncle. It's not because of any "jokes" but just the overall attitude. I think that Morrissey must have been a little giddy at the time. He was making it on his own and preparing for a successful US tour. He had a lot of good post-Smiths songs and was commercially and artistically successful. The future was wide open, as it says in that Tom Petty song I hear at Walgreen's all the time.
