My bloody maniac whiplash

My children are very musical. My daughter is a lyric driven listener and my son is a instrumental driven listener. I have surreal moments where I recognize through experience that I am close to my kids on a many levels.

The gym has brought on some of these surreal moments. Today while I was listening to this soundtrack, I thought of some of them. Bye the way, this album is soooooooo good.

I had put together a sound system for the gym. I'm not an audiophile person but just a little research helped me put together something that will make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up, for how complete the sound envelopes you and how detailed the sound is.

Amp, cd, Bluetooth

Two more speakers on the opposite side of the room but down low.

And then the sub to feel it.

My son will often hang with me in the evening, we will lay on the floor of the gym, and he will play current songs he likes through the system. He likes thefatrat. I listen with him and I like hearing the detail in the music and the production parts. I'm honored that my teenage son would ask me to hear the music he likes.

Well, a couple of nights ago he asked me to play something of mine, so I grabbed the cd loveless from my bloody valentine. My son was blown away and listened to the whole album with me. I explained that this album was highly regarded in what was called shoe-gaze. We took a trip together, with music, in the gym.

And yesterday my daughter storms into my workout while the 10000 maniacs album In my tribe was playing. She started questioning me about who it was. I opened the cd and said, read these lyrics and listen to the song (the cherry tree), you will love them. She did.

The gym has paid dividends beyond my belief, and part of that being a stereo. Whodathunk.

Again No1, what a wonderful post. 10,ooo maniacs...that brings back memories! My Uncle worked at a radio station and built one in his basement. He had a record collection surpassed by no one. I was introduced to Led Zeppelin, Crosby Stills Nash and Young, Fleetwood Mac, America, Linda Ronstadt, and so many, many other great artists. We would put a record on and drive to get a pizza listening to his station on the car radio. As a kid, it was the coolest thing.

He died young at the age of 59. I had moved away years before and spent little time with him before returning to his funeral. I was a poll bearer and I am not much of a crier, but I could not hold myself together. Enjoy the times you have with your children. Time is the most fleeting thing of all...even more than hair. :)

I need to hire you as a trainer, not just for physical fitness, but emotional fitness. It is rare to make a connection with anyone let alone your children whose job it is to hate their parents at some point. You seem to be navigating that mine field nicely. Shoe-gaze music is my sweet spot. I went through a fifteen year trip-hop phase with the likes of Portishead, Morcheeba, Bonobo, Soma Sonic, and other off the beaten path artists.

Continue to post and if you take any more family trips be sure to post the pictures! Take care.
