Plenty of vegetarians and vegans have "inconsistencies" or slips. They are human just like anyone else...and Morrissey is more human than most. :)
And no, I don't see the animal stuff as being self-promoting because it has done little to nothing to promote himself.
Whatever genuine criticisms can be made of Morrissey, you can bet your life that when he mentions animals it is always for genuine animal welfare issues!
When promoting Southpaw Grammar in the press Morrissey would admit that, "This is not as good an album as Vauxhall" so I guess that could be considered self-sabotage in a way.
However, the album was never destined to be a big hit imo. The opening single is pretty dire, most of the songs are...
But it's more to do with the admin or lack thereof. The state of any forum will reflect the administration and here they have obviously been found wanting.
Err. Read my posts again. :D
You certainly seem to have some extreme feelings about ROTT though, but as you've indicated they are not necessarily shared.
That's your opinion and your entitled to it, but the fact is that Ringleader got great reviews at the time and certainly boosted Morrissey's career and reputation.
Also, I personally don't think it can be said that it ushered in a new era in terms of the lyrics. There had been plenty of dodgy...
Sure, but most of Morrissey's work since the "comeback" has been very well received. LIHS is the first album not to receive positive reviews and there is no doubt that the work Morrissey has done since YATQ has certainly massively boosted his reputation after Southpaw Grammar and Maladjusted...
It's a poorly written article and it is pretty ludicrous to compare Morrissey now with The Smiths. That is as pointless as criticizing a Paul McCartney album for not being as good as The Beatles.
Morrissey's albums since the "comeback" have certainly not been perfect, but it is still a very...
Yeah, that's what I mean. Mike probably knows that it will never happen, but he has mentioned many times that he would like a reunion. And Morrissey mentioned the supposed letter as well, of course.
I'm sure he does to some extent. I can't help feeling that there's a part of him that would also like to mend fences to some extent, even if he knows that it can probably never happen.
Once again.
I did NOT compare Morrissey's treatment with The Dixie Chicks.
Another poster was talking about my comment regarding Shania Twain. I mentioned The Dixie Chicks as both they and Shania Twain are country music stars. Nothing to do with Morrissey specifically. Read the posts again.
:)
Fine, if you only object to the word "forced", I will rephrase and factually state: "Shania Twain felt compelled to apologize because she has been labelled a racist sympathizer and there is speculation that her career might be over."
That still shows how insane the world is today as was the...
No and I didn't say anything of the sort.
It's interesting that you mention 90s country singers though because the way The Dixie Chicks were treated shows that there is nothing new about this kind of situation and the stupidity comes from both sides.
A terrible interviewer, but Mike came across well.
On a tangentially related note...while Morrissey has obviously courted controversy, the fact that Shania Twain has been forced to apologize just for mentioning who she would have voted for in the U.S. election shows just how insane the world...
