Bots in this case are usually search engines crawling the site, rather than a regular browser they identify themselves differently.

Thanks David. I thought robots might also refer to code that does automatic jobs on the website esp. re counts. And I must admit to an 'uncanny valley' feeling on encountering one or two members, which must be unfounded, given what you're saying.
