More Smiths in talk shows

An anonymous person writes: On a very recent The Daily Show with Jon Stewart there were two Smiths references. The first came as he was talking about the "War on Drugs" that the US is fighting. He said, "There's a kid in the audience with a Smiths shirt saying, 'Uhhh, there's a drug war?'" with his best impersonation of a stoner. Later while discussing American college students, he described them as going "Nowhere Fast" as he said it he looked at the audience and smiled to himself.

Railed Daily also writes: I work nights and watch the Craig Kilborn show nearly every night, and lo and behold, one night they were playing "Reel Around The Fountain" as they went to a commercial. Can't remember the date or who was on the show that night because I was dumbstruck to hear the song! Did anyone else hear it???

  • wow... "Nowhere Fast". pretty nice reference. It doesn't surprise me, though, Jon Stewart is one of the most intelligent & witty people on the American talk show circuit.

  • The Kilborn reference doesn't surpise me. Did anyone see the Pet Shop Boys on Kilborn? He kept bringing them up during the monologue, had a bit where he mimicked crying during their rehersal, and played songs off their new album in and out of all the commercial breaks. They seemed embarrased at all the attention he gave them. I hope Morrissey books a spot on his show during the tour, as Craig appears to be a big fan of the Smiths, PSB, etc.
