Fiona Dodwell: "Morrissey reflects on 'the horror of 2020' after departure from BMG" (November 17, 2020)

Well said Fiona. Morrissey’s views may not please everyone but he is someone who speaks his mind without being under the thumb of managers or record company bosses. He’s essentially still a working class guy.

Morrissey Central "BMG DUMP MORRISSEY" (November 16, 2020)

I have a broad musical taste and do not just listen to Morrissey and the Smiths. I can appreciate jazz (Chet Baker, Miles Davis etc), classical as well as folk.

Morrissey’s canon is not ‘garbage’. I have defended ‘I Am not a Dog on a Chain’ because as a number three album it was a hit album, whether sales were lower than his previous album of originals or not. Musically it was more diverse and melodic than ‘Low in High School’ although I admit that the...

Aside from your use of gratuitous invective and foul language, this post makes unfounded assumptions about my musical knowledge. I have a huge cd and vinyl collection which spans many genres.

Morrissey Central "BMG DUMP MORRISSEY" (November 16, 2020)

This response is contradictory . You state that Morrissey is no longer a ‘free thinker’ and yet you insult him as a ‘bigoted uncle at a bar’ for freely expressing some opinions. Morrissey has always made controversial statements. In the 80s he attacked the monarchy in interviews and in the 90s...

    Unsubstantiated assertion and therefore unconvincing.

It is both, however artistry is the most important of course. Morrissey’s BMG albums had high chart placings but more importantly they have a greater artistic value than the standard pop music acts one finds in the charts currently.

Has any person damaged Morrissey more than Sam Etsy Rayner?

I fail to see how Sam has damaged Morrissey. He is Morrissey’s nephew and has always been supportive of his uncle.

    Where now for Morrissey?

There are a number of options he could take now. He could tout around the big labels for another deal, but that may take too long. Alternatively he could go for a smaller label or found his own as Fairport Convention have done and other older artists. A radical step would be to re-found the...

I have limited knowledge of Tiny Tim, other than that he was an eccentric hippie who sang novelty songs in a falsetto voice. I think we can all agree that Morrissey is in a higher league artistically.

Morrissey Central "BMG DUMP MORRISSEY" (November 16, 2020)

Strange post. Regarding the charge that Morrissey is ‘Nazi’ or ‘racist’, both of which I’ve read on this thread, I’d ask people to apply some logic. Firstly, if Morrissey or his fans were ‘Nazi’ then why is he so fond of Israel? National Socialist Germany was not supportive of Jewish people to...

Have you any evidence that ‘I Am Not a Dog on a Chain’ wasn’t profitable?

Not many fans would not have bought multiple coloured vinyl versions plus a cassette version. That would be obsessives only.

I accept that a few people may believe this. However the point is that his chart placings in Europe are still high.

Morrissey Central "BMG DUMP MORRISSEY" (November 16, 2020)

This is a weak argument. Many people have always disliked Morrissey and the Smiths. Back in the day they said he was ‘miserable’ and depressing etc. Now it is something else. The point is that a Morrissey album has a guaranteed market and number 3 is a high chart placing. To drop him makes no...
