The Smiths as a band name

(Edit: love how radioactive this post is. Personally, I believe it 100%, but that's just me)(chuckling) I know Morrissey always said he chose The Smiths as a bland, almost meaningless name for the band, to contrast with 80s glitz and glamour. But it's always been a wee bit suspicious to me that...

    Random not-hugely-interesting thought

Moz must have loved Crash by JG Ballard. 😀

    Random not-hugely-interesting thought

Just sitting here listening to That Joke Isn't Funny Anymore. "It was dark as I drove the point home/and on cold leather seats/when it suddenly struck me/I just might die with a smile on my face after all." Reminded me of: "Punctured bicycle on a hillside desolate/will nature make a man of me...

Morrissey Central "A RUSH AND A PUSH AND THE MUSIC IS OURS" (April 19, 2024)

Moz should just put the album out digitally, and do a limited edition vinyl run to satisfy his obsessive need to have a physical copy. Best of both worlds. He couldn't complain then.

Is that acceptable/unacceptable quote a real Moz quote? It's hilarious and brilliant.

Fiona Dodwell: "Morrissey Was Rejecting Toxic Masculinity 30 Years Before It Was Fashionable" (April 27, 2024)

Christ, what a risible, arselicking article, full of trite tripe and outdated 20th century views on men. ALL masculinity is considered 'toxic' these days, and that disgusting phrase (how come we never hear about 'toxic femininity'? Are women godlike creatures who never do any wrong? Yeah right)...

    Brigitte Calls Me Baby

Dear god, the singer is wearing purple trousers! And at least half of those song titles are inadvertent comedy classics: Fine Dining. I Wanna Die In The Suburbs. Cosmic Telephone. You Are Only Made Of Dreams. The Future Is Our Way Out. Poor old Jez, Wes, Trev, Dev, and...Jack. Wes should...

    The Tortured Poets Department.

I couldn't care less what you're bored of. She's vapid popcult dogshit. And oh aye, those lyrics are a 'joke at her own expense.' Sure they are. Reminds me of Pink's more gaudy trite writhing slop, but at least she writes the odd decent song. Those lyrics I quoted on the first post are not a...

Tell us about the last film you watched, pt 2

Watched this a couple of nights ago on the BFI player. Took out a two-week trial subscription, instantly cancelled after it. Thoroughly enjoyed the doc. Spent some good nights at the Scala in the late 80s/early 90s. Miss the place.

    The Tortured Poets Department.

Wailer Swift thinks she's a 'tortured poet,' according to her next album title. Hilarious! Her cringe-worthy 'poetry' is certainly tortuous, at least: 'And so I enter into evidence / My tarnished coat of arms / My muses, acquired like bruises / My talismans and charms / The tick, tick, tick of...

This may seem contentious, least I hope so, but

For Christ's sake. There's far more than just one single publication done an interview with the man. Why even bring the NME into it? Ludicrous.

This may seem contentious, least I hope so, but

I recall reading an interview where Moz recalled losing his virginity (he put it into the public arena, not me) at age 13, and words long the lines of "It's been all downhill since." Recall an outdoors scenario. Anybody remember that? No joke. "Leather seats" indeed.
