thanks - if Peter didn't say it and Rob did then I want that to be clarified.
Rob's no longer here to defend himself but it's a horrific thing to say about anybody.
Loads of time for Bernard Sumner BTW, that first Electronic album is an absolute gem and Johnny was clearly unwinding from the...
Thanks for that - if someone is happy to correct me and confirm that it was Rob Gretton and not Peter Hook who said that, then I'm happy to be corrected - and apologise to Peter Hook/friends of his accordingly.
The quote was once attributed to him somewhere and it impacted my view of him as a...
Noted - I've seen the quote attributed to Peter, but if it was the late Rob Gretton then I'm happy to be corrected.
Apologies to friends of Peter Hook for any upset caused.
Yeah it was Peter Hook who said:-
You know what your problem is Morrissey? You never had the guts to kill yourself like Ian did...
It was Hook who said it (really doesn't sound like something Bernard would say and Steve/Gillian were fairly quiet).
Peter went way, way down in my estimation...
Morning - as we know the Smiths signed to Rough Trade after Johnny went down there in person with demos and demanded that Geoff Travis listen to them (that's how the story goes anyway). But before that there's a story to the effect of:- the Smiths tried to sign with Factory/could have signed...
Hiya - really happy with this.
I know the vocals aren't technically great but they aren't supposed to be.
I wrote the words, Nick Sagar on guitars.
The fantastic Tracy Melling on BV's - thanks.
For a bit of fun I thought I'd share this - nods to John Cooper Clarke, clearly.
Based on a true story as it happens...
Mercuryin the Water
So reasons to be cheerful
I have precisely none
the final scene is tearful
unless I act smart and...get gone

Ok got it from here, does he explicitly say it?

Hiya - I wonder if this is part of the problem.
I'm not going to get into an 'is he racist?' thing because on balance I don't think he is. I think Morrissey is a contrarian and supports the underdog at such things, hence he was 'left wing' in 80s Thatcher Britain and supports 'silent majority'...
gonna vote for Strangeways - it sounded like a best authentic version of him.
Last 4-5 records have all sounded a bit over-coached/forced like he's had lessons and it's knocked the charm out of his voice.
Strangeways struck the right balance for me...
Evening - glad to have started a couple of good threads on here.
I remember a quote from an old guitar tutor of mine who insisted that Morrissey HATED synths in the early days of the Smiths. Apparently he had said "when a synth appears on a Smiths record I won't be" or something like that.
If...
Hi Amy - hope you're good. I think Morrissey's probably one of those people who's a lot more sensitive about his own feelings than he could ever be about the feelings of others. Just my own personal, but for a 'sensitive' person it can go conveniently walkabouts.
Morrissey and Johnny needed...
Massive New Order fan here, so thanks.
Monaco were great, although David Potts' contribution to that shouldn't be understated. What do you want from me? has to be on any definitive 1990s soundtrack for my money.
I've heard it said that New Order were at their best when they were not together...
