Impossible (and in no particular order):
The Cure: A Strange Day
The Cramps: Garbageman
Siouxsie and the Banshees: Spellbound
Soft Cell: Say Hello, Wave Goodbye
Killing Joke: Requiem
Virgin Prunes: Ulakanakulot
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds: From Her to Eternity
Bauhaus: Bela Lugosi's...
We're on the same page: I've been an Arcade Fire fan since "Funeral." The first time I heard that album I had to stop what I was doing, sit down and just drink it in. They are the best kind of pop, and they are the rare band that has (so far) managed massive, arena-level fame and still produced...
Re: Article: The Smiths in 'least sophisticated song lyrics' group according to Mirror analysis - Th
This is a misuse of the word "sophisticated." The greatest poets don't use the longest words, and they don't use the most words. They use the right words. The greatest poets are economical...
It was truly unbelievable; that second stage was absolute perfection. They took an arena show and turned it into an intimate encounter.
That live video for Buck Dich is what turned me into a rabid fan: take no prisoners! Other bands pose and play at transgression, but Rammstein take...
I just saw Rammstein on their latest US tour, and it was one of the very best live gigs I've ever experienced.
No one can touch them:
Although these guys do come close:
I was a Soft Cell fan before I was a Smiths fan, and Marc Almond's brilliant lyrics, unapologetic intelligence, sparkling sense of humor, fearlessly transgressive presentation and wholehearted championing of life's underdogs certainly shared much with The Smiths. That said, I don't think of...
Wonderful article/video.
Musical icons are people too, and they sometimes make dubious decisions like the rest of us. Paul Simonen has performed above and beyond the call of duty on this one though. Very inspiring! :guitar:
Wow, you really know your Soft Cell: I looked it up, and the show I saw apparently took place in 1983. It was at the Roseland Ballroom, and everyone in the audience knew that Soft Cell were finished - it was bittersweet and wonderful.
I saw them so many years later on the Cruelty Without...
I don't just like Soft Cell, I LOVE Soft Cell.
They gave electronic club music a warm, humane touch at a time when it was cool to be cold, and managed to combine intelligence and sleaze in a way that has seldom been equalled. Marc Almond is one of the most criminally underrated lyricists in...
Seconded. :thumb:
I think they played the exact same setlist as Manchester - that's the disadvantage of such an elaborate set-up, I suppose.
They ended with Engel, and Till wore those giant, flaming metal wings. I couldn't help but think of Rilke's angel, and Wings of Desire. Really, the...
Christ on a stick, that was such an incredible show last night; words simply fail to convey the experience.
The final encore was breathtakingly gorgeous: Fritz Lang meets Wim Wenders, with a soundtrack to die for.
I do remember a few posters here decided a short while ago that no one has the right to be as unreasonable as Morrissey: Moz and Moz alone has earned the right to be completely, belligerently irrational. The rest of us should know better. :thumb:
Say what you will, but Rammstein is flat-out more fun than any other band I've ever seen. They have an exquisitely honed sense of absurdity, revel in their cultural references and metaphors, play with social, political (and literal) fire, have refined their guitar sound to a perfect chugging...

Everyone's a bit older now; I think they're setting each other on fire instead.
A++
This is the one and only show in the US, but the word is that there may well be a US tour in the not-too-distant future, due to the fact that they just sold out MSG. Fingers crossed.
Edit: Weren't...
Rammstein are playing their first American show since 2001 next Saturday, at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The show "sold out" in about 30 minutes, and everyone panicked and sent ticket prices soaring - it was $200.00 just to get in the door.
There are still plenty of seats...
Killing Joke - December 3rd, Irving Plaza, NYC. KJ are kicking off their North American tour with this show.
I've loved them since I was a kid - the new material is still lead-heavy, hard and heartfelt. I don't know how they do it.
