Hand gestures on stage

Does anyone know what the hand gestures mean when he first comes on stage? It has to mean something as he keeps doing it. I can't find a video of him doing it right now but it's always when he first comes out. Just it's been bugging me for a while now so if anyone can share their insight that would be great.

He moves to each side of the stage and flicks his wrists back and forth. That's the only way I can describe it really.

I think it's 'cos the puppeteer is pulling the strings attached to his hands in some crazy fashion. The strings dissolve during the first song. I hope that answers your question.
