Uncleskinny: Complaints?

Thanks for providing actual links. I would put these in the category of 'personal dispute'. I don't recall the full details but I believe there is a bit of history that goes back years as they are related to the person who runs the Blue Rose Society / Morrissey's world blog / Twitter that has attacked Uncleskinny several times and as I recall went so far as to post personal details. So there is provocation. I can understand why someone would be angry if they did that to me, can you understand? The actual posts you quoted have harsh language and the surname of the person behind the site. I don't wish to see such posts on the site but when there are people who abuse the anonymous posting options and looking at the details of this personal feud I understand the anger. I liken it to the "f*** Harvest Records" shirts / Steve Barnett feud. I personally feel there could be better ways to express the anger but I understand it and want to know how people feel - I wouldn't call for it to be censored.

As far as moderating, yes there are some mistakes from my view but he has listened to and taken in the feedback and moderated the site appropriately.

Just the first page, there are literally thousands in this ultra-offensive vein to be found...
Most of them are hidden due to bad ratings.
You don't want someone like that moderating your site, or any site for that matter, now do you, David?

Two mild examples from an exchange with me. They may not be as extreme as the above examples, but I still think they are unacceptable and contravene the terms of service by being abusive, offensive, and objectionable. I really don't think it's appropriate for a moderator to swear at and denigrate site members. He's participating in the very behaviour he is there to moderate. Similarly, the way he constantly tells people to "f*** off" or calls them "unthinking drones" shows he has absolutely no respect for the members of the site. It's just not appropriate behaviour.

I'd just like to say that I'm new here, and I really love the community as a whole. The amount of sharing and interest is really wholesome, and it's a thoroughly nice outlet for fans to communicate and share new material/info etc. etc.

Skinny seems to be a fairly major contributor - I've read and can see that he's responsible for lots of good content. But, even if my brief, superficial view of things is such - he has a really rather poisonous way of infiltrating innocuous chatter, and the aggression feels quite uncalled for. I do think that it should be the job of other moderators to rescind the privileges of someone behaving that way, but that is purely my opinion.

I see how the lines can be blurred between 'moderator' and 'registered user', but please try to separate those two. If it's a case where I need to find users that will moderate the site for free on a daily basis while either not being allowed to freely post or they are not interested in posting - there aren't that many and in the past I have tried to incorporate those with similar attributes but in my experience they move on after a brief period so it's actually a lot of work to manage.

One of the side effects of a free system is there are likely some posts that you find disagreeable. General advice is pick and choose what to read and try to ignore items that bother or distract you. I will continue to look at warnings / bannings / removing privileges to users as well as mods as I have in the past.

There is no mob, Peter, just some people on the site who are tired of being abused by the moderator. Personally, I hate online bullies. I don't care about his views on Morrissey - though they do represent a clear conflict of interest when a moderator is supposed to be impartial, of course. He is aggressive, antagonistic and instigates most of the spats he gets into. He also seems to have no respect for anybody else's point of view. This is a moderator who behaves like a troll. It's frankly ludicrous.

I go on a politics forum and the moderators on there get into spats with people all the time, it's the nature of the beast. Their policy is that moderators are there to deal with shit that most of us don't see, inappropriate stuff like porn or spam but what they post is up to them. I think it's the same here. I'm ok with that. Obviously some online sites have the idea that moderators are there to keep things civil but I don't think that's their job on here, or on the other forum I was talking about.
