I don't thing he's made anything remotely worthwhile for many, many years. I didn't like Friday I'm love, anything on that album or anything since. I don't know what went wrong. Maybe age.
1. The Smiths/Morrissey - anyone not posting this should have their fingers severed one by one followed by their toes.
2. The Pixies
3. Prince
4. Interpol
5. Muse
Agreed on all of that.
Also, my favourite album is either Purple Rain, Lovesexy, Around the world in a day, Sign o' the times or Parade depending on the day. Prince was ace in the 80's. Dirty mind has a few gems on it although its not consistent enough to be amongst the best.
You're getting old ;)
Not only that but its all been done. How many songs can you write with the same format? I find indie's got pretty boring of late but the Arctic Monkeys at least are able to offset the boredom with relatively interesting lyrics.
Hey, I like this three band thing. Except that although I like many bands I only have two favourite bands.
1st The Smiths
2nd The Pixies
Aah, 3rd The Arctic Monkeys just to spite those who are saying they're shite even though they aren't really.
I've got a few older Wedding Present records. I've got everything up to that album they did which was all released on singles.
My favourite Weddos album is Bizzaro.
I'd vote for none if there was an option. Nirvana were a 2nd rate Pixies for me.
REM are fine but I can't get overly excited about them. As for all that depressing grunge bollocks.
All this music is so uninspired. No wonder the charts look as bad as they do if that bunch of artists...
I love The Wedding Present.
I'm also giving an honerable mention to Public Enemy who nobody's voted for - including me - 'cause they were ace when they came out.
Looking at this poll it's made me realise that there don't seem to be any important bands anymore, ones that actually change...
Half of my favourite album at the minute is Grace by Tim Buckley. Some of it I'm not too keen but hey ho.
Likewise with the Arctic Monkeys album and a few others I'm listening to.
Tomorrow I'll no doubt be liking other albums more.
Re: Famous, well-respected, hall-of-fame-type, legendary artists....... that you HATE
I think you might be on to something with your U2 remark. I put a lot of their success down to Irish Nationalism. Pretty much everyone I know who's loved them has been Irish. Then again, I do live in...
Re: Reggae is WILD!
One of my all time favourite records is "Suzanne beware of the devil", it just got an ace vibe to it ;)
Bob Marley was around with all those people too though. He just went with a tad more polished sound later in life. I never ever, ever listen to Bob Marley but I...
May I jump in on the defence of Bob Marley and Reggae in general.
Just 'cause Morrissey makes a flippant comment doesn't mean you have to follow it. For me older reggae is absolutley fantastic. A World without 60's reggae would be a lot worse off.
Morrissey was no stranger to early...
Where will it all end?
For me it ended when I stopped buying Q some time back, partly due to these endless stupid lists and partly due to it turning into a crap mag for 50 somethings.
Of those mentioned so far I very much like Aretha Franklin, Blondie and latter day Johnny Cash.
I have to back up whoever said Bob Dylan, for me he's possibly the most over-rated artist ever.
I'd add the Clash and The Who to the list of artists that I really can't figure out where their...
Dirty Pretty Things seem like The Libertines but with crap lyrics. They're slightly better than Babyshambles but then again, Babyshambles are only slightly better than Kajagoogoo.
2, 3 and 4 for me. She looks too much like Keith Allen to be considered good looking too! Listening to smile is like listening to a 3rd rate Culture Club and Culture Club weren't very good.
