Re: Universal deny blocking Morrissey Paris tribute release, call Morrissey's accusations "hurtful and wrong"
They say they were not contacted directly by him. Then they say they contacted a representative after becoming aware of the posts. This is kind of strange. Why don't they say "We were never approached about this," or "the first we heard of it was when he posted on his website?" The "directly" part kind of stinks, but if anyone has contacted them there must be some evidence, so I don't know if they would deny it. It's hard to imagine either side just lying about it. I'm thinking it's going to turn out that Morrissey had someone make the call for him and they couldn't get through or the message was lost with all they were dealing with. Now they are offering to do it, sort of, but Morrissey would have to give the money away to a charity they approve, and the Animal Liberation Front probably wouldn't do, plus he would have to sort of acknowledge that there was some "mixup" and he's posted that meme so that would make him look like child who threw a tantrum and then promised to be good.
The other alternative is that there is no record of the call, and the post with the meme has made this executive angry so he's acting like, "f*** me? No, f*** you." And I can see any of these scenarios as equally plausible. If someone did that to me, I might resort to dirty tricks, and he's dealt with Morrissey in the past. I can imagine he might have a grudge from before. We know how Morrissey winds up at odds with his record labels.
