Cheapest way to get from Heathrow to Manchester

So I'm thinking of going to see the Moz Manchester gig. Big investment for me. Can someone help me out with the best/cheapest way to get from Heathrow to Manchester. I went on to Ryanair site (only UK economy airline I know) and they don't do that route.

Bus, train, plane? Any advice welcome.

Train's fast but EXPENSIVE.

Apparently the Heathrow Express train's expensive enough on its own, and that's just to get you into central London.

If I were you, I'd get that (cos there isn't really an alternative), then get a coach up to Manchester. Yes, it's going to take f***ing HOURS but it's a FRACTION of the price of the train.

I remember when I went to uni in London, my friend came to visit me from Bristol. She got a coach and it cost her £1. Yes, one British pound.

BMI Baby is the one to try. Done it a few times and if you book in advance you can get it around 50 quid including taxes.
I got a BMI credit card the other week and as soon as I use it I can fly return on any of their euro flights for free. Look on their website and see if it says anything about signing up for the credit card!
National Express is very cheap and Mega Bus too but they take around 5 hours. Again, the earlier you book the cheaper it is.
The cheapest train route is St Pancras to Manchester on Midland Mainline. check their website - again, the earlier the cheaper it is.

Alternatively, put a message on the main board asking if anyone is driving up with room in the car.

Thanks lilybett and The Goat. I haven't booked and paid for my tickets yet, but I think I'm going to do it all tomorrow. I'll be devastated (and broke) of Moz cancels this gig.
