This came today on my company's news summary. I'm just reproducing the text:

Out Magazine published a list of the gayest albums in pop history. The list was voted by 100 gay actors, musicians and critics. The most voted album was "The rise and fall of Ziggy Stardust and The Spiders From Mars" by David Bowie in 1972, and The Smiths, musicians usually identified as gay ,appeared in the 2nd and 6th place.
Among the voters were Boy George, Rufus Wainwright y Jake Shears...

1. David Bowie - The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars
2. The Smiths - The Smiths
3. Tracy Chapman - Tracy Chapman
4. Indigo Girls - Indigo Girls
5. Judy Garland - Judy At Carnegie Hall
6. The Smiths - The Queen Is Dead
7. Elton John - Goodbye Yellow Brick Road
8. Madonna - The Immaculate Collection
9. Cyndi Lauper - She's So Unusual
10. Antony And The Johnsons - I Am A Bird Now

The fact that Elton John comes in AFTER the Smiths makes no sense to me.

Also Antony and the Johnsons I feel, should be number 1.

"Not that there's anything wrong with it." ;)

I have an impression that voters simply voted their favourite albums.
Otherwise they don't vote The Smiths and Tracy Chapman.

The debut album is very very very very very gay.
Miserable Lie
Hand In Glove
Pretty Girls Make Graves
This Charming Man
(these come to mind off the top of my head, there could be others)

Whether or not that songs are blatantly gay or ambiguously gay, the argument can be made. If we believe the Dale Hibbert blog is really him and he's being honest he said that they were trying to be a gay band. Having James Maker as a Go-Go dancer doesn't exactly counter this accusation. Morrissey wearing women's blouses and womens costume jewelry at this time doesn't help either.

TQID on the other hand just has Vicar in a Tutu.
Ok, the vocal on The Boy With the Thorn is not incredibly masculine.

However, the brashness of the title track and bigmouth, the humour of Frankly Mr. Shankly, the ying yang style of Cemetry Gates with bright music and melody with dark lyrics, the hypnotic sounds of Some Girls are Bigger Than others and the best love song ever written with perfect music, vocals and lyrics in There is a Light.. a song that can reach anyone of any gender who has ever been in love, felt shy or felt like they need to get away from their parents make for a pretty strong case against this being a gay record and simply a brilliant record.

The Smiths gay? Unfounded, completely and utterly unfounded.

The rest of them, save Strangeways I think are in there, too. Viva Hate is there as well.
Now there is a list I can get behind. (would be funnier if I was a guy)
