Our song for today is this Morrissey/Whyte composition, released as a stand-alone single in Dec 1995 and reaching #42 on the UK chart.
What do we think of this one?
Agree, it's such a lovely, quiet gem of a song isn't it?Love this song and used to play it to death. It’s classic Alain, sure, but there’s such heartrenching melancholy in the chord progression and Moz’s very transparent lyrical themes of drug abuse. It’s so simple, yet devastatingly executed and effective. The ending reminds me of “Pretty Girls Make Graves” with Alain’s lovely backing vocals.
Such an underrated song - completely ignored at the time, as I recall, as a single. Definitely deserves to be reevaluated in future.
9/10
bazz i used to do that as well but every now and again i would cast my eyes upwards to see who was on the cover of razzle, great days, ahh miss the days of the nudey mags.I can remember being completely heart broken upon discovering this song had failed to make the top 40.
Think I was in WHS at the time as I was one of those tight fisted Bastards who would clog the isles reading the NME without any intention of buying the 4king thing .
RE the song it’s a lovey little tune that rolls along with great tempo and considering the content matter doesn’t sound depressing at all.
Also it sits proudly among other great songs on Mozzers first hits cd .
Great days .... you could read any mag in there that tickled your fancy and you didn’t have to spend a penny..bazz i used to do that as well but every now and again i would cast my eyes upwards to see who was on the cover of razzle, great days, ahh miss the days of the nudey mags.
Kids today with their streaming platforms, online porn and video gaming. Never will they know the thrill of finding a load of jazz mags on some disused railway line or in the woods....bazz i used to do that as well but every now and again i would cast my eyes upwards to see who was on the cover of razzle, great days, ahh miss the days of the nudey mags.

Good song, wasn't it recorded before Southpaw though? I heard it was about Jake and his habits.
Always remember he released this and Boyracer in successive weeks on different labels (can't recall which way round) and neither really troubled the charts. Plus ca change
