Morrissey and Kathleen Ferrier

MR ENA SHARPLES

New Member
I've recently become quite interested in the work of Kathleen Ferrier, who was a singer from Blackburn in England. As of the 8th October, it will be 56 years since she passed away aged 41. She had a powerful and beautiful singing voice and became popular in Britain soon after World War Two. Kathleen was also well liked in other parts of Europe too.
I understand Morrissey may have spoken about his admiration for her in the past. Does anyone have any quotes?

Kathleen Ferrier sang for the opening of the Manchester Free Trade Hall in 1951, ending with a performance of Elgar's Land of Hope and Glory, the only performance of that piece in her career. AOn 4 June 1976, Morrissey went the Lesser Free Trade Hall, a smaller room upstairs from the main hall, to see the gig by the Sex Pistols that was a catalyst for many musicians.
