Whatever your take on Morrissey I'd suggest a good deal of fans would consider this latest rant to be a another mistake.

I think some fans hope that the alt-right discussions would go away (clearly there are fans who support alt-right ideology) particularly when a release is due. But no, Morrissey has continued to drop major clangers near release dates since LiHS and here we have another.

I can't quite see it either, but many traditional left wing supporters are now being accused of being far-right when in reality their views have not changed in the slightest. I see morrissey as part of this group. The working class gain nothing from mass immigration for example and never have - for them it just means less jobs and money coming in.

I do disagree about Morrissey not enjoying it though. He loves a bit of drama. He's not only got a contrarian streak that needs sating, but I can tell he gets a frisson from the media's over-reaction to his statements these days for the simple reason that he doesn't give them a rest! He got hell last year for simply mentioning the words 'Tommy Robinson' and then went on further with the wearing of badges and saying more 'inflammatory' (but in reality harmless) things that he knew his enemies in the Guardian would swoop down upon with vigour. He loves a drama does our Moz - but to accuse him of being irrationally hateful is just silly. People like Billy Bragg and other accusers just like picking up woke points.

Morrissey is more playful in his words than he gets credit for. His humour and slight-eccentricity gets him into trouble. A shame because England used to love its eccentrics and their takes on the world. Though maybe i'm just getting the media confused with real people.
