Production on the new Morrissey album has been undertaken by Tony Visconti, who is in Rome with Morrissey and the band. The album should be completed by November 1st, and is entitled Ringleader Of The Tormentors.

Tony Visconti is most famous for production on all of the early albums by T.Rex and David Bowie.

Jeff Saltzman, who was originally named as producer, could not undertake the project.

The album is engineered by Marco Origel, who is from the San Francisco area.

Ringleader Of The Tormentors will be released on Attack early in 2006. Morrissey is delighted with the album which he describes as “the most beautiful—perhaps the most gentle, so far.”

Wow, that is a scoop worthy of Reg Plate!

It sounds right to me.

Incidently, I looked up "tormentors" and found this as an entry:

Main Entry: tor·men·tor
Variant(s): also tor·ment·er /tor-'men-t&r, 'tor-"/
Function: noun
1 : one that torments
2 : a fixed curtain or flat on each side of a theater stage that prevents the audience from seeing into the wings

That kind of wordplay is classic Moz.

"the most GENTLE so far"! i said the "rockier" album was a myth, BRILLIANT STUFF!

Re: Wow, that is a scoop worthy of Reg Plate!

Ringleader of the Tormentors? Hmm, so what will the title song be about, Abu Ghraib or something?

Exactly, they can stick the "Daddy's voice" type stuff on the B sides!

No, not the B-sides... I buy those.

That stuff is better relegated to magazine flexidiscs, internet downloads, and japanese bonus tracks.

Sounds like a lyric to a new song! "You know i couldn't paint a vulgar picture"
