Will we ever find out what went on with Billy's footballing uncle at Red Star Belgrade? Sadly not, but this Bragg/Marr co-write's rather fun anyway. Billy sings, Johnny twangs, strums and tinkles and pulls in Kirsty MacColl to help with the backing vocals.

i love this song, though i think "cindy of 1000 lives" is 5 times better. johnny marr's production attempt to sound like phil spector...and it works a treat.

I always found Braggs vocal technique grimly southern , and as for the solo vocal/electric guitar combo, it made me feel ill at times. I suppose sexuality was a tad different to his usual thang, good song but needed a different singer.

I had an Uncle who once played, for Red Star Belgrade is the first lyric I ever remember hearing. And I was only ten at the time!
