Black Coal, Thin Ice

This chinese crime drama about a serial killer who chops up his victims was fascinating viewing. The oriental film tradition is still very present even though times have moved on and the scenery and atmosphere gives this film something extra. A very clever story but with a chinese touch where you do not get everything explained so it is a film that needs your attention all the way.

At Any Price

This film starring Dennis Quaid and Zac Efron is about a farmer family and their struggles. The film touches on the GMO issue and what modern farmers struggle with but also focuses on the struggles between the son and his father. Great acting and Dennis Quaid is a personal favourite of mine and really grows as this film goes on. I also liked the acting by Maika Monroe in what was a delight to watch.

Agree! He is brilliant. The movie is a thrill ride beginning to end. One of the best of 2014.

Not sure you would see the comparison like I do but Force Majeure made me think of a modern Scenes from a marriage. My fave Bergman must be "Fanny and Alexander" but they are all great in their own way.

Best viewed at xmas so if you can hold out for the next one because for me it is the ultimate xmas film although it does feature all seasons.

The Imitation Game

Thank God this is not about the nazis and war as such as that is in the background. This is about gay rights and the struggles that come with being a genius. It is also about the history of computers. Cannot say it moved me much because Cumberbatch's appearance absolutely freak me out. The guy is so scary to look at it is unreal and it makes me shrug. Keira Knightley is usually a loveable creature in the films she's in but sadly misplaced in this as she is like a modern day girl thrown into a film about the past and I was expecting her to answer a mobile call in all scenes she was a part of.

Zarra's Law

A couple of old NYC gangster faces from old films is seen in this tv format film about an ex cop and his bust up with a mob member. Parts of it is like some music video with men fighting in slow motion to music. Would not recommend it even though it has one great advantage and that is that it is a very short film.

Have you seen her in Pride & Prejudice? She is perfect in that role. She is wonderful in Atonement as well--also a historical drama.

Romantic films tend to be cheesy and if they are american then you will get to watch at least one well toned guy pose in a Hanes shirt so in that sense this was nothing new. This film does however dare to go down a different path a bit and involve white trasg violence and all kinds of ordeals. It is a bit like Dallas and ER in one go and that doesn't have to be a negative thing. A real heartbreaker of a film and a perfect film to awaken the missing cuddle for all you people in old dead relationships.

For RB:
I love Keira Kneightley but she was so misplaced in that film.
