The Smiths - 3rd most played band in John Peel's Festive 50s

You are entitled your opinion, but Festive 50 reflected Peel listeners' taste.
It is still very interesting to see what kind of music was popular at that time.

Although John Peel 'presented' the tracks, the festive 50 was voted for by the UK listeners. In '86 nearly half of the tracks were morrissey/smiths, to which i remember him admitting his likening for the smiths, however finding the situation rather ridiculous.
 
Everything except the Smiths and the Clash on that list is liquid shit.

Replace them with Radiohead and the Flaming Lips and you have a decent list of the most overrated bands of all time.
 
either way im glad that didnt happen. strummer is an interesting guy but i cant see him as a producer, especially not a morrissey record. ron is a fantastic musician and a very technically gifted one as well. cant imagine what joe would bring to the table except his name
