Sadly, this does not surprise me. i teach young children, and some of the backgrounds they come from are heartbreaking. I sometimes wonder why some of these parents decided to have children, and I do the best I can to raise any issues I can with the relevent authorities, but sometimes, they don't want to know. Kevin does actually seem to care about the kids and has his parents and her parents for support, so maybe until she sorts herself out, it is the best idea. But then, I don't know all the facts. However, it is very rare for children to be seperated from their mothers, so something must be up.

brit didnt do anything the judge told her to do - didnt go to parenting classes, didn't get the drug tests at random, didnt even get a valid CA driver's license. she deserves to lose them.
